Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to appoint a Consultant Obstetric Physician to join the North Central London (NCL) multi-disciplinary Maternal Medicine Team on a fixed-term basis.

The successful post holder will be based at one of the maternity hospitals within the NCL Maternal Medicine Network - North Middlesex University Hospital.

The Role

As a Consultant in Obstetric Medicine within the NCL network, you will provide specialist care for pregnant women with medical problems in both inpatient and outpatient settings at one of the NCL partner hospitals. The role includes:

Participation in multi-disciplinary antenatal and postnatal clinics Acute consults for pregnant/recently pregnant women with medical problems Management of maternal medicine inpatients Liaison and coordination of patient care across the NCL network Attendance and active participation in NCL multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings Contribution to the ongoing development of the NCL Maternal Medicine Network In addition, the post holder will coordinate mechanisms to provide advice and education to physicians, obstetricians, general practitioners, and other healthcare professionals across the maternal medicine network.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work in partnership with the NCL multi-disciplinary maternal medicine team. They will be based at North Middlesex University Hospital within the NCL maternal medicine network.

This physician should have completed a pre or post CCT RCP credential in Obstetric Medicine or have undergone specific training in Obstetric Medicine within an established Obstetric medicine service.

Working as a consultant in Obstetric Medicine within the network will include caring for pregnant women with medical problems in both the in-patient and out-patient setting in North Middlesex University Hospital. This will involve multi-disciplinary antenatal and post-natal clinics, rapid access service for pregnant women with medical problems and management of maternal medicine inpatients. Additionally, liaising and coordinating patients care across the network, attending and participating in NCL MDT's and contributing to the ongoing development of the network.

The post holder will coordinate a mechanism to provide advice and education to other physicians, obstetricians, general practitioners and other health care professionals throughout the maternal medicine network.

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment and hold a current licence to practise Fellow or Member of Royal College of Physicians (RCP) CCT or equivalent in a medical speciality Undergone specific training in Obstetric Medicine within an established Obstetric medicine service Currently working as a Consultant Physician at North Middlesex University Hospital

Desirable

RCP credential in Obstetric medicine (pre or post CCT) A postgraduate degree (MD or PhD)

Knowledge and experience Essential

In depth additional expert knowledge acquired over a significant period in Maternal Medicine Membership and regular attendance at regional and national conferences in maternal medicine/obstetric medicine including BMFMS and UK MacDonald Obstetric Medicine Society (MOMS) Significant evidence of continued professional development in field of maternal medicine

Desirable

Subject matter expertise across several key areas relating to Maternal Medicine, and able to evidence national recognition of their expertise Proven and significant leadership experience and/or formal management qualification Experience of successfully operating in and delivering priorities in a partnership environment

Teaching skills Desirable

Clinical Supervisor for Obstetric Medicine Advanced Training Speciality Module (ATSM) with track record of trainees successfully completing ATSM Evidence of training physicians in obstetric medicine Evidence of developing regional or national courses in maternal medicine

Academic skills Desirable

Evidence of academic output in field of maternal medicine Evidence of involvement with maternal death panels or MBRRACE confidential enquiry into maternal deaths

Skills and capabilities & Communication skills Essential

Ability to deal with challenging situations in a formal setting, including working with Trust Medical Directors Strong communications skills Ability to prepare and produce concise yet insightful communications for dissemination to stakeholders
