Job summary
As a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Vascular Access you will be expected to support the Vascular Access Lead Nurse and the wider to team to actively contribute to the on-going development of the Vascular Access Service across the trust and ensure that it delivers and promotes best practice in the care and management of all vascular access devices, promoting aseptic non touch technique to reduce the risk of device related complications and in particular infection.
The post holder will work across our three sites, having a main base primarily at Charing Cross hospital, close to Hammersmith Broadway with good transport links.
You will be joining a small friendly team who strive for excellence in delivering Vascular access to patients requiring medium term vascular access device for a range of specialities within our organisation with the patient at the centre of all we do.
Main duties of the job
You will be responsible for the insertion of PICC and midline catheters and ultrasound guided PVC once in receipt of a referral and appropriate screening has taken place to several patients across a range of specialities in a timely manner. You will be an advocate and role model for ANTT as part of our bacteraemia reduction programme across the organisation. You will assist the team in delivering face to face cannulation teaching to other colleagues learning this skill and assessing competency when required. You will work within our competency framework as Vascular Access Clinical Nurse Specialist adhering to best practise. You will provide your expert knowledge around Vascular Access Devices and wider IV Therapy to our trust wide Line Safety Management group and in the development of trust wide guidelines.

Person Specification
Education/ qualifications Essential
Registered Nurse Teaching and Assessing qualification or equivalent teaching experience Has attained or is nearing completion of a Degree in Specialist Nursing. Post registration experience in a relevant area with experience of change management. Placement of Peripherally Inserted Central Catheters, Midline catheters competency Cannulation & Venepuncture competency
Desirable
Considering or working towards a degree at Masters level Leadership qualification Infection Prevention experience. Immediate Life support certificate. IR (MER) qualification.
Experience Essential
Significant post registration experience in speciality area and experience in either junior speciality role Experience with managing patient relevant to specialist area Proven teaching and assessing skills.
Skills/knowledge/ abilities Essential
Knowledge of research and audit including implementation of findings and review of outcomes Evidence of continuing professional development
