If you have a passion for providing person centred care, want to help people with the use of their medicines and strive for patient safety, this is an exciting opportunity to work as a medicine's optimisation technician.

You'll be working as part of an established medicines optimisation team at ward level, consisting of other pharmacy technicians and pharmacists, working alongside the wider multidisciplinary team. You'll also play a vital part in the general pharmacy, and as a member of the dispensary team you'll be labelling, dispensing and final accuracy checking prescriptions.

Main duties of the job

To work as a medicines optimisation technician and conduct medicines histories working in accordance with polices and procedures.

To complete ward-based medicines related tasks such as the ordering and supply of required medications, dealing with medications returns (including controlled drugs) and the assessing of patient own medications.

To conduct workplace audits.

To perform the final accuracy checking of prescriptions.

You will be required to manage your own workload and assist in the training and supervision of others.

We will help you develop your skills through a comprehensive induction training program for you to meet the requirements of a medicine's optimisation technician at Trelsike Hospital. Recent experience of working in hospital Pharmacy is desirable, although full training is given, along with enrolment onto a final accuracy checking course or the medicines optimisation training program if needed to fulfil the duties of the job role.

This is a full-time post working 37.5 hours per week.

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

Pharmacy Technician Certificate through City & Guilds, Apothecaries Hall, BTEC or NVQ Level 3 in Pharmaceutical Science Registered Pharmacy Technician with the GPhC

Desirable

Accredited Final Accuracy Checking or Medicines Optimisation Accreditation The second accreditation achieved or underway; either Accredited Final Accuracy Checking Technician or Medicines Optimisation status

Experience Essential

Significant post-registration experience (PTPT training course included for internal staff) Experience working in a patient-facing role

Desirable

Significant experience working as a pharmacy technician within a hospital setting Experience completing audits and working with hospital based computer systems
