About this role

Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic well motivated individual to work within the respiratory and sleep physiology team at North Manchester General Hospital, part of the Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust.

This is a rapidly growing service and we require an individual with the drive and ambition to move the service forward within the evolving field of respiratory and sleep medicine, providing high standards of patient care in keeping with trust values.

Main duties of the job

Plan, perform, interpret, and provide reports on a wide range of Respiratory and Sleep physiological investigations to patients of all age groups, without supervision, employing current standards.

Initiate CPAP treatment where appropriate and conduct follow-up CPAP compliance reviews, face to face and remote.

Teaching, training and mentoring of students and junior staff.

There may be future need to travel to the subsequent diagnostic hubs in development across the Manchester area.

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

BSc (Hons) Clinical Physiology degree or equivalent. Evidence of CPD Registered with AHCS or HCPC (or eligible).

Desirable

MSc (Hons) Clinical Physiology degree or equivalent. Postgraduate formal training courses in relevant clinical field.

Experience Essential

Substantial experience working within a Respiratory/Sleep Physiology department. Competent at performing and interpreting, full lung function tests, respiratory muscle tests, capillary blood gases and bronchial challenge testing Competent at performing, scoring and interpreting home polygraphy sleep studies. Experience of CPAP issue and after care with patients.

Desirable

Experience working as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Teaching, training and assessing experience. Experience in stock control.

Skills and Knowledge Essential

Ability to communicate complex and sensitive information in a variety of forms to patients, relatives and carers whose cognisance may be limited and where there are barriers to understanding. Able to undertake complex eye-hand co-ordination in the use of diagnostic equipment. Ability to keep accurate documentation. Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines. Work autonomously and as part of a team. Good understanding of sleep and respiratory physiology

Desirable

Experience in use of Epic software.

Other Essential

Skilled in the use of Microsoft software. Motivated and organised. Prepared to work at potential community diagnostic centres (CDC) on a rostered system.

Desirable

Ability to embrace change.
