About this role

Job summary An exciting opportunity has arisen for motivated and experienced phlebotomists to join the phlebotomy service at the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust as band 3 Phlebotomy Supervisors.

We are seeking dynamic and motivated individuals who are competent in venepuncture and have supervisory management experience.

The successful applicants will have the opportunity to develop their leadership skills while supporting the delivery of a high quality, patient focused, safe phlebotomy service and also be involved in quality improvement initiatives, audit and staff training and development programmes.

Main duties of the job As a Phlebotomy supervisor you will support on a daily basis a group of phlebotomists and provide effective coordination of the service.

You will be a fully competent phlebotomist and will be expected to set and maintain high standards of patient care and blood sample collection.

You will be working unsupervised, seeking support from line-managers as appropriate.

You will work in various locations across the Trust and in the community supervising the work of phlebotomy staff as requested.

You will have the knowledge and skills necessary to contribute towards the provision of an accurate and timely service for patients.

You will be expected to apply professional judgements and specialist skills to technical and sometimes difficult situations.

You will be required to communicate effectively with patients and to colleagues.

Your contribution towards your development will require your active participation in people governance procedures consistent with Trust policies supporting Team leader.

You may be required to undertake additional tasks in support of the general management of the department.

What you will bring to the role Who will be able to

To extract blood samples from patients in a manner that makes the blood sample suitable for analytical, therapeutic or diagnostic testing and purpose. To co-ordinate activities in varied locations e.g. hospital wards, outpatient clinics, community locations and within the patients domicile. Working with Team leaders to maintain and update policies and procedures that will lead to service improvements. To support and participate in investigations all untoward incidents including patient complaints. To be responsible for the health safety and welfare of yourself, your team and of the patient. To ensure Health and Safety procedures are followed by all staff in all areas. To ensure that staff are fully conversant with obtaining lawful consent and that consent is obtained in all instances. To effectively manage contingencies that arise during the day to day running of phlebotomy services. To support the Outpatient CSU audit processes by inputting data as required. To contribute to general departmental management by performing, subject to consultation, such tasks as delegated by the Team Leaderfor Phlebotomy To independently manage own workload and effectively delegate work to others. To communicate effectively, information to patients, relatives and staff of all ages, genders, sexual orientation, cultures or physical abilities, in a non-discriminatory or judgmental manner and be able to overcome barriers of communication within these areas.
