About this role

The Director of Revenue Cycle Management will oversee and optimize the end-to-end Revenue Cycle. This leader is responsible for driving operational excellence, compliance, and financial performance within the Revenue Cycle teams. By partnering with clinical, operational, financial, and the VP of the Revenue Cycle, the Revenue Cycle Director will ensure consistent, scalable processes that maximize revenue, support the client experience, and align with organizational growth. This role serves as a key advisor to executive leadership and is accountable for the financial and data integrity of the Revenue Cycle.

POSITION SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Leadership and Strategy:

• Develop and execute a comprehensive Revenue Cycle strategy that supports the agency's expansion and long-term scalability, in partnership with the VP of Revenue Cycle.

• Lead, mentor, and develop Revenue Cycle teams across all areas of the department.

• Establish and monitor KPIs, dashboards, and performance metrics to ensure optimal performance, reduced denials, and continuous improvement.

• Set clear performance expectations, conduct regular reviews, and foster culture accountability and professional growth.

Operational Excellence/Drive for Results

• Oversee day-to-day Revenue Cycle operations, ensuring consistent and standardized processes across Revenue Cycle teams.

• Implement best practices in the various teams of the Revenue Cycle aimed at reimbursement optimization.

• Lead Revenue Cycle audits and root cause analyses to reduce denial rates and accelerate collections.

• Develop and monitor an upstream, data-driven prevention model as opposed to a reactive billing operation.

• Develop and enforce cross-functional accountability aligning Clinical and Client Access around shared targets.

• Develop and monitor shared ownership across Revenue Cycle departments to prevent handoff friction points.

Compliance and Quality

• Ensure full adherence to federal, state, and Payer regulations, including HIPAA, CMS guidelines, and state-specific billing requirements.

• Monitor compliance with coding standards and Payer contract requirements.

• Stay current on industry trends, regulatory changes, and Payer policy updates to proactively adapt Revenue Cycle processes.

Technology and Process Improvement

• Lead the discussions with EHR team regarding ongoing optimization efforts surrounding practice management system functionality to support Revenue Cycle efficiency.

• Drive automation, workflow standardization, and technology adoption to improve accuracy and reduce manual rework across billing operations.

• Identify and implement process improvement initiatives that reduce denials, shorten A/R days, and strengthen overall Revenue Cycle performance.

Collaboration and Reporting

• Serve as a key advisor to executive leadership on revenue performance, financial risks, and strategic opportunities.

• Prepare and present monthly revenue cycle performance reports, including KPIs, trend analyses, denial summaries, and reimbursement forecasts.

• Partner with Finance, Clinical Leadership, and the VP of the Revenue Cycle to align Revenue Cycle processes with organizational priorities and growth initiatives.

• Collaborate with other Revenue Cycle leaders to identify workflow improvements and resolve cross-functional billing challenges.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Know, understand, incorporate, and demonstrates the FCS Mission, Vision, and Values in behaviors, practices and decisions.

• Work with Revenue Cycle leadership to ensure understanding of Payer contracts, application of contract terms and ensure alignment with processes and the bearing on Cash Posting functions and how these components could play into Client Billing Inquires.

• At the direction of the Vice President of the Revenue Cycle, partner and assist Revenue Cycle leaders to formally assess the developmental needs of the department on a periodic basis and promote opportunities for development.

• Ensure work assignments are performed and supported to achieve departmental goals and outcomes.

• Promote a positive Client Experience model within team and its relation to Revenue Cycle processes

QUALIFICATIONS

education:

• Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business, Finance, or a related field.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Knowledge of government and commercial insurance procedures, regulations and billing requirements. Strong analytical and organization skills required. Strong ability to lead and/or work as a member of various cross-functional teams. Must have well-developed written and oral communication skills. Strong understanding of quality customer service.

EXPERIENCE:

• Minimum 7-10 years progressive Revenue Cycle Management experience in healthcare, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.

• Proven experience overseeing Revenue Cycle operations in a multi-site, city, state healthcare organization.

• Strong knowledge of Payer rules, healthcare reimbursement methodologies, and billing standards.

• Demonstrated success implementing process improvements and technology solutions to enhance Revenue Cycle performance.

• Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills with the ability to influence across Clinical, Operational, and Financial teams.
