About this role
Elementary School Math Education Trainer
Project Description: Experienced instructional leaders are invited to support elementary schools in the Eastern Caribbean by strengthening numeracy instruction and math outcomes.
The Eastern Caribbean's Ministries of Education are working to accelerate student mathematics achievement in response to teaching challenges, including limited specialized training, reliance on traditional, rote methods, and curriculum shifts that require new approaches to teaching and learning. Although investments in professional development, coaching systems, and strategies that promote conceptual understanding have begun to improve classroom practice, gaps in student performance remain. Many learners continue to struggle with foundational number sense, and variations in teacher competencies, coupled with diverse learning needs, contribute to uneven outcomes. This has created a critical need for targeted instructional support, effective use of assessment data, and practical tools that help all students build a strong foundation in mathematics.
As an Elementary School Math Education Trainer, you will work closely with education officers, school leaders, and classroom teachers to strengthen instructional skills across schools. Responsibilities include elevating competencies in assessment design, data analysis, and evidence-based practice; modeling effective teaching strategies; supporting individualized learning plans; and contributing to the development of communities of practice that promote continuous improvement.

AND Two or more years of teaching experience in one of the following areas: math, chemistry, physics, computer science, biology, earth sciences, or art.
Living Conditions: Volunteers spend their first week in a shared double bedroom before moving to independent houses or apartments, either standalone or within a host family compound. Volunteers commute by bus to their worksites and major shopping areas, generally 25–30 minutes away.
Job Highlights: Gain experience designing and facilitating teacher trainings focused on assessment practices, data use, and instructional technology. Develop foundational Kwéyòl/Creole language skills through immersive, daily conversations. Experience the culture and traditions of Eastern Caribbean communities.

You may also work on additional projects that meet the community’s interests and priorities such as co-facilitating at communities of practice for elementary school teachers.
Training: After a two-week orientation on topics such as health and safety, you will move to a peri-urban community where you will collaborate with the Ministry of Education and schools to assess the learning needs and develop a work plan in line with their established goals.
