Position Summary The Assistant Produce Manager supports the Produce Manager in the daily operation of the Produce Department. This position helps ensure customers receive excellent service while maintaining a fresh, attractive, well-stocked, and properly merchandised department. The Assistant Produce Manager also supports associate training, inventory management, shrink control, food safety, sanitation, and overall department performance. Key Responsibilities • Assist the Produce Manager with the overall operation and performance of the Produce Department. • Provide friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient customer service. • Support, coach, and train Produce Department associates to ensure consistent execution of department standards. • Help assign daily tasks and follow up with associates to ensure responsibilities are completed. • Maintain proper product levels through ordering, receiving, stocking, rotating, and merchandising. • Ensure produce displays are full, fresh, organized, properly signed, and visually appealing. • Inspect products regularly for freshness, quality, and condition, removing damaged or unsellable merchandise as needed. • Follow proper product rotation procedures to maintain freshness and reduce shrink. • Assist with inventory management, ordering, sales goals, and controlling department shrink. • Ensure promotional and advertised items are properly displayed, stocked, and signed. • Maintain accurate pricing and product labeling throughout the department. • Assist with preparing, trimming, packaging, and displaying produce items according to company standards. • Maintain clean and organized sales floors, coolers, backrooms, preparation areas, displays, and equipment. • Follow all food safety, sanitation, health, and workplace safety requirements. • Monitor department conditions throughout the shift and respond quickly to low-stock items, spills, damaged products, or other customer and operational needs. • Assist with opening and closing department responsibilities as assigned. • Step into the Produce Manager's leadership responsibilities when the Produce Manager is unavailable. • Communicate staffing needs, product concerns, inventory issues, and operational opportunities to store leadership. • Support other areas of the store as needed and contribute to a positive, team-oriented work environment. Leadership Expectations • Lead by example and maintain a professional, positive attitude. • Provide associates with clear direction, expectations, and follow-up. • Help develop associates through training, coaching, and ongoing feedback. • Promote teamwork, accountability, urgency, and excellent customer service. • Maintain high department standards throughout the entire shift. • Help identify opportunities to improve sales, merchandising, freshness, and shrink. • Respond to customer concerns professionally and work toward quick and appropriate resolutions. Qualifications • Previous retail, grocery, produce department, or related experience preferred. • Previous leadership or supervisory experience preferred. • Strong customer service and communication skills. • Basic knowledge of produce products, freshness standards, rotation, merchandising, and food safety practices preferred. • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment. • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a team. • Must be dependable, organized, and able to demonstrate good judgment. • Ability to work a flexible schedule based on business needs, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Physical Requirements • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. • Ability to bend, reach, squat, push, pull, and perform repetitive motions. • Ability to lift and move produce cases, boxes, displays, and department supplies as required. • Ability to work in refrigerated and cooler environments. • Ability to safely use department tools and equipment after receiving appropriate training.
