About this role

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a qualified High Intensity CBT therapist to join the TalkPlus team. The vacancy is for a full-time role (37.5 hours per week); however, we will also consider candidates who wish to work part time.

This is a role within an NHS Talking Therapies service providing high intensity Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) interventions to clients with a range of problems for which CBT is demonstrated to be clinically effective. The post-holder will work within a blended model of face-to-face and remote working. TalkPlus is a high achieving NHS Talking Therapies service and a well-established Long-Term Conditions (LTC) service. We are fortunate to work alongside a team of counsellors, psychologists, and employment advisors.This is an opportunity for an enthusiastic and compassionate Therapist to work within an established service, where there are opportunities for team working and continued professional development. Main duties of the job

As a High Intensity Therapist within NHS Talking Therapies, you will deliver high-quality CBT interventions to adults with common mental health difficulties, including anxiety and depression. You will undertake assessments, formulate and implement treatment plans, manage a varied caseload, and work autonomously while maintaining strong links with primary care and wider healthcare services. You will play an active role in supporting service development, clinical supervision, audit, and quality improvement, helping to ensure the delivery of safe, effective and patient-centred care.

About us

NHUC is a not-for-profit Community Benefit Society, working in partnership with the NHS. NHUC provides services through two divisions, Same Day Care (SDC) and TalkPlus.

SDC provides services through the Integrated Urgent Care (IUC) contract which covers the in Hours Clinical Assessment Service (CAS) and Out of Hours (OOH) provision for North Hampshire, North East Hampshire and Farnham & Surrey Heath places which are part of the Hampshire and the Isle of Wight ICB and Surrey & Sussex ICB respectively. We also provide an Urgent Treatment Centre at the front door of Frimley Park Hospital whilst also holding some smaller contacts supporting Community Hospitals OOH and Flu response. Finally, SDC has a virtual care arm supporting patients at home.

TalkPlus provide NHS Talking Therapies, supporting people with common mental health problems in Northeast Hampshire and Farnham place. TalkPlus offers a range of treatments to people who are experiencing symptoms of stress, anxiety, low mood, depression, panic, phobias or OCD. TalkPlus has care pathways to provide timely treatment for perinatal and military veteran referrals.

Role Summary

The post holder will be part of an NHS Talking Therapies service and will provide high intensity interventions - Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).The post holder will work with clients who have a range of Anxiety and Depression related problems for which CBT is demonstrated to be clinically effective.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

CLINICAL

Accept referrals via agreed protocols within the service.Assess clients for suitability for psychological interventions.Make decisions on suitability of new referrals, adhering to the departments referral protocols, and refer unsuitable clients on to the relevant service or back to the referral agent as necessary.Formulate, implement and evaluate therapy programmes for clients.Use highly developed communication skills in working with people to understand their personal and often very sensitive difficulties.To exercise autonomous professional responsibility for the assessment and treatment of clients in line with the service standards.Educate and involve family members and others in treatment as necessary, conveying CBT and other psychological formulations with sensitivity in easily understood language.Adhere to an agreed activity contract relating to the number of client contacts offered, and clinical sessions carried out per week, in order to minimise waiting times and ensure treatment delivery remains accessible and convenient.Attend multi-disciplinary meetings relating to referrals or clients in treatment, where appropriate.Complete all requirements relating to data collection within the service.Keep coherent records of all clinical activity in line with service protocols.Work closely with other members of the team ensuring appropriate step-up and step-down arrangements are in place to maintain a stepped care approach.Assess and integrate issues surrounding work and employment into the overall therapy process.Carry out clinical audits of service performance, including service user surveys and evaluations, and help to collate and disseminate the results for feedback.Liaise with other health and social care staff from a range of agencies in the care provided for clients.Provide specialist advice and consultation to other professionals / individuals / groups / committees across Mental Health Trusts, Primary Care Trusts and other voluntary agencies regarding service matters, related to the practice and delivery of specific agreed therapeutic modalities and service provision.Provide weekly duty cover where incoming referrals are screened and support is provided to the team in choosing the appropriate treatment pathway and with safety management.

TRAINING AND SUPERVISION

Contribute to the teaching and training of mental health professionals and other staff working in the service.Prepare for, attend and participate in clinical skills supervision and case management supervision as outlined in service policy.

PROFESSIONAL

Ensure the maintenance of standards of practice according to the employer and any regulating, professional and accrediting bodies (e.g. BABCP), and keep up to date on new recommendations/guidelines set by the Department of Health (e.g. NHS plan, National Service Framework, National Institute for Clinical Excellence).Ensure that client confidentiality is protected at all times.Be aware of and keep up to date with advances in the spheres of CBT and other psychological therapies.Ensure clear professional objectives are identified, discussed and reviewed with senior therapists on a regular basis as part of continuing professional development (CPD).Attend clinical/managerial supervision on a regular basis as agreed with Line Manager.Participate in individual performance reviews and respond to agreed objectives.Keep up to date all records in relation to CPD and ensure personal development plan maintains up to date specialist knowledge of latest theoretical and service delivery models/developments.Attend relevant conferences / workshops in line with identified professional objectives.Participate in service improvement by highlighting issues and implementing changes in practice.

ADVISORY / LIAISON

Provide an advisory service on matters related to the practice and delivery of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy to individuals/groups/committees across mental and physical health services and other voluntary agencies.Promote and maintain links with Primary Care and Secondary Care Staff to help co-ordinate the provision of an effective Psychological Therapies Service.

Knowledge, Communications, Interpersonal and Personal Skills Essential

Full range of skills and competencies as laid out in the competence framework for CBT (Roth and Pilling 2007) Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS Has received training (either formal or through experience) and carried out risk assessments within scope of practice Able to develop good therapeutic relationships with clients Accredited with a professional psychological therapy organisation or working towards accreditation Demonstrates an understanding of anxiety and depression and how it may present in Primary Care Demonstrates a knowledge of the issues surrounding work and the impact it can have on mental health / benefits & employment systems Knowledge of medication used in anxiety and depression and other common mental health problems Demonstrates an understanding for the need to use evidence based psychological therapies and how it relates to this post Knowledge of child protection issues and other relevant legislation Flexible in approach to the needs of the service and responsive to change Understands and supports principles of equality, diversity, and inclusion in the workplace.
