Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a Trainee Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner (Trainee PWP) to join our team.

Our dedicated Psychological Well-being Practitioners offer a range of psychological therapies & services to treat and support people in their recovery. TalkPlus is committed to developing staff to reach their full potential.

Depending on the amount of applications, first stage interviews may be held online on the 4th or 5th November 2026. If successful post first stage, second interviews will be held face to face in our offices in Farnborough on the 10th November 2026.

Main duties of the job

This is a training role within the NHS talking therapies service. The post-holder will work within the talking therapies service providing high volume, low intensity interventions whilst undertaking a programme of training for this role. The training post will equip the postholder to provide a range of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) based self-management interventions to clients with anxiety and depression. The post-holder will attend all taught and self-study days required by The University as specified within the National Low Intensity curriculum and work in the service for the remaining days of the week using their newly developed skills.

The post holder will work with people with different cultural backgrounds and ages, using interpreters when necessary and should be committed to equal opportunities.

This is a training role within the NHS talking therapies programme and the trainee will take an active role in the service.

About us

NHUC is a not-for-profit Community Benefit Society, working in partnership with the NHS. NHUC provides services through two divisions, Same Day Care (SDC) and TalkPlus.

SDC provides services through the Integrated Urgent Care (IUC) contract which covers the in Hours Clinical Assessment Service (CAS) and Out of Hours (OOH) provision for North Hampshire, North East Hampshire and Farnham & Surrey Heath places which are part of the Hampshire and the Isle of Wight ICB and Surrey & Sussex ICB respectively. We also provide an Urgent Treatment Centre at the front door of Frimley Park Hospital whilst also holding some smaller contacts supporting Community Hospitals OOH and Flu response. Finally, SDC has a virtual care arm supporting patients at home.

TalkPlus provide NHS Talking Therapies, supporting people with common mental health problems in Northeast Hampshire and Farnham place. TalkPlus offers a range of treatments to people who are experiencing symptoms of stress, anxiety, low mood, depression, panic, phobias or OCD. TalkPlus has care pathways to provide timely treatment for perinatal and military veteran referrals.

Job description Job responsibilities

CLINICAL

Accept referrals via agreed protocols within the service. Assess and support people with a common mental health problem in the self-management of their recovery. Undertakes patient-centred assessments which identify areas where the person wishes to see change and/or recovery and makes an accurate assessment of safety to self and others. Make decisions on suitability of new referrals, adhering to the services referral protocols, refers patients where Talkplus is not the most suitable service on to the relevant service or back to the referral agent as necessary or steps-up the persons treatment to high intensity psychological therapy. Provide a range of information and support for evidence based high-volume low-intensity psychological treatments. This will include 1-1 guided self-help via face to face, telephone, video or instant messaging as well as computerised CBT (Silvercloud). To also co-facilitate Step 2 courses with qualified PWPs. Adhere to an agreed number of clinical sessions per week to minimise waiting times and ensure treatment delivery remains accessible and convenient. Attend multi-disciplinary meetings relating to referrals or clients in treatment, where appropriate. Complete all requirements relating to data collection within the service. Keep coherent records of all clinical activity in line with service protocols and use these records and clinical outcome data in clinical decision making. Work closely with other members of the team ensuring appropriate step-up and step-down arrangements are in place to maintain a stepped care approach. To liaise and refer to other mental health agencies as and when required. Assess and integrate issues surrounding work and employment into the overall therapy process, working alongside employment advisors (Waythrough) within the service. To operate at all times from an inclusive values base which promotes recovery and recognises and respects diversity.TRAINING AND SUPERVISION

Attend and fulfil all the requirements of the training element of the post including practical, academic and practice-based assessments. Apply learning from the training programme (from university and service training) in clinical practice Receive supervision from educational providers in relation to course work to meet the required standards. Prepare and present clinical information for all patients on their caseload to clinical case management supervisors within the service on an agreed and scheduled basis, to ensure safe practice and the clinical governance obligations of the worker, supervisor and service are delivered. Respond to and implement supervision suggestions by supervisors in clinical practice. Engage in and respond to personal development supervision to improve competencies and clinical practice. To partake in live supervision (shadowing) with qualified practitioners and to reflect on personal as well as others practice aiding development and meet university competencies.PROFESSIONAL

Ensure the maintenance of standards of practice according to the employer and any regulating bodies. Keep up to date on new recommendations/guidelines set by the department of health (e.g. NHS plan, National Service Framework, National Institute for Clinical Excellence). Adhere to Talkplus Confidentiality policy at all times Ensure clear objectives are identified, discussed and reviewed with senior therapists on a regular basis as part of continuing professional development. Participate in individual performance reviews and respond to agreed objectives. Keep up to date all records in relation to Continuous Professional Development and maintain up to date knowledge of service developments. Attend relevant conferences/workshops in line with identified professional objectives. To work towards PWP registration it is a mandatory part of employment for Qualified PWPs to register with either the British Psychological Society (BPS) or the British Association of Cognitive and Behavioural Psychologists (BABCP) for PWP registration. The cost of this registration is met by the individual staff member and will be required as part of maintaining their contract of employment.GENERAL

To maintain up-to-date knowledge of legislation, national and local policies and procedures in relation to Mental Health and Primary Care Services. Experience Essential

Experience of working in a healthcare setting preferably with those with mental health problems for at least 2 years Ability to manage own caseload and time

Experience of working in Primary Care Services Worked in a service with agreed targets in place demonstrating clinical outcomes

Qualifications Essential

UK 2.2 Honours degree (post graduate route) or Level 5 qualification (e.g. foundation degree) (graduate route) A qualification under this may be considered depending on the outcome of an entry essay set by the university

Desirable

Training in nursing, social work, occupational therapy, counselling or a psychological therapy. Psychology or other health related undergraduate degree. Psychology or other health related postgraduate degree
