Summary: About the Role: At Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, exceptional patient care starts behind the scenes with dedicated professionals who ensure laboratory operations run smoothly and efficiently. As a Clinical Laboratory Assistant, you'll play a critical role in supporting the testing process from specimen receipt through reporting, helping deliver accurate and timely information that supports patient diagnosis, treatment, and research.

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys a mix of customer service, administrative support, laboratory operations, and problem-solving. You'll work closely with laboratory professionals, physicians, patients, and healthcare teams while helping maintain the high standards of quality and accuracy that patients depend on.

Clinical Laboratory Assistant I: The starting annual salary for this position is $44,560 and this will include a full comprehensive benefits package.

Clinical Laboratory Assistant II: The starting annual salary for this position is $49,841 and this will include a full comprehensive benefits package.

What You'll Do: Serve as a key point of contact for laboratory-related inquiries by phone, email, and other communication channels. Answer questions, route calls, take messages, and provide support to patients, providers, and healthcare teams. Receive, accession, and process laboratory specimens using laboratory and hospital information systems. Process, sort, distribute, and maintain laboratory reports, records, correspondence, and other important documentation. Coordinate requests for laboratory reports and ensure appropriate authorizations are obtained when needed. Retrieve laboratory information and records from multiple information systems. Create and coordinate patient encounters through hospital scheduling systems. Process laboratory specimens, including centrifugation, aliquoting, measurement, storage, and preparation for testing. Package and prepare specimens for internal and external laboratory testing while following shipping and privacy requirements. Maintain accurate specimen tracking and inventory controls to ensure proper chain of custody and retrieval. Assist with laboratory quality control, quality assurance, and preventive maintenance activities. Support laboratory supply management, including receiving, storing, monitoring, and ordering inventory. Maintain laboratory workspaces, storage areas, and specimen repositories in a clean, organized, and safe manner. Prepare and maintain records, reports, statistics, and other required documentation. Collaborate with laboratory teams to support efficient operations and excellent customer service.

Qualifications: Clinical Laboratory Assistant I: Required Education and Experience 1. Matriculation in a Bachelor’s degree program; or 2. Matriculation in an Associate’s degree program; or 3. High School diploma or High School Equivalency diploma and the equivalent of two (2) years of full-time experience in a clinical or research setting requiring the use of medical/laboratory terminology.

NOTE: Degrees must be conferred by an accredited school, college, or university, or by an institution recognized by Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center and/or Health Research Incorporated as adhering to acceptable educational standards.

OR

Clinical Laboratory Assistant II: Required Education and Experience

1. Two (2) years of full-time experience as a Clinical Laboratory Assistant I at Roswell Park; or 2. Bachelor’s degree in a healthcare or scientific related field and the equivalent of one (1) year of full-time experience in a clinical or research setting requiring the use of medical/laboratory terminology; or 3. Associate’s degree and the equivalent of two (2) years of full-time experience in a comparable medical/clinical setting; or 4. High School Diploma or High School Equivalency Diploma and the equivalent of four (4) years of full-time experience in a clinical or research setting requiring the use of medical/laboratory terminology.

NOTE: Degrees must be conferred by an accredited school, college, or university, or by an institution recognized by Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center and/or Health Research Incorporated as adhering to acceptable educational standards.
