About this role

Job summary The post holder will lead engagement with the organisations membership, primarily through role-based and equality, diversity and inclusion forums as well as some hosted organisations within the directorate of membership development and support. They will hold portfolio-level oversight of forums, remaining close to content and delivery to ensure quality, impact and member needs are met, bringing strong policy awareness. They will provide leadership across these programmes of work, ensuring the offer is compelling, relevant and continuously evolving in response to member insight and the external landscape, and applying judgment to understand patterns of engagement across different work areas.

Main duties of the job Lead and develop our member forums and EDI networks programme, ensuring it delivers impact, value and a high-quality member experience.

Provide leadership and support to the Membership Engagement team, setting priorities and enabling colleagues to do their best work.

Build trusted relationships with senior NHS leaders, forum chairs and member organisations, facilitating collaboration and shared learning.

Use policy awareness, member insight and sector intelligence to shape relevant discussions and identify emerging priorities.

Work across the Alliance to connect people, ideas and activity, ensuring a joined-up and coordinated approach to member engagement, and using data and insights to drive decision-making.

Job description Job responsibilities

Design and implement the forums and EDI networks programme, taking responsibility for maximising value, reach and impact, ensuring that there is consistency in delivery and that developments are communicated effectively, both internally and externally to members, stakeholders where relevant. This will also include designing new fora where appropriate

Provide leadership and oversight to the Membership Engagement team, setting priorities, supporting professional development, ensuring high-quality delivery across programmes of work, and fostering a collaborative, inclusive and high-performing culture. Ensure resources are deployed effectively and that team objectives align with organisational priorities

Apply policy knowledge and analytical judgement to horizon-scan healthcare developments, identifying emerging issues relevant to members and the organisation, working closely with the sector networks and policy teams. Using this insight, the postholder will contribute to well-curated agendas for member forums, and ensuring member insight flows across the organisation

Develop effective working relationships with colleagues across all teams including sector networks, acting as a connector to identify opportunities for alignment, collaboration and shared learning. Ensuring:

coherence of engagement activity between central and sector based forums and events,

avoidance of duplication and coordination of engagement with members

advice to network teams on effective design of forums and member engagement events.

Take responsibility for promoting equality, diversity and inclusion, ensuring forums, engagement and outputs reflect the needs of all members and stakeholders, and actively embedding inclusive practice into everyday work

Build and maintain trusted relationships with senior member representatives (board-level contacts), using insight and data to understand member needs, shape priorities and strengthen member engagement, as well as contribute to the development of an engagement strategy

Oversee quality assurance, evaluation and feedback across all forum and engagement activity, ensuring member insight and performance data are systematically captured, analysed and used to drive continuous improvement, and connecting themes across different areas of work to promote shared learning.

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

Proven track record of leading multifaceted projects and teams, managing high performing teams, including setting priorities, developing individuals and delivering outcomes through others Experience of building and maintaining productive relationships across team boundaries, proactively engaging colleagues, connecting themes and opportunities across different areas of work, and fostering collaboration to maximise impact Experience of developing and delivering high-quality content, engagement sessions and facilitated discussions for senior leadership audiences. Demonstrates a strong and genuine commitment to advancing equality, diversity and inclusion, and embedding inclusive practice in leadership, engagement and programme delivery. Strong interpersonal and engagement skills with the ability to build and maintain close relationships with board members and stakeholders at a senior and executive level, including at 1:1 level and in facilitating meetings and groups with the credibility and influence to work strategically Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to grasp complex issues quickly and to interpret, provide insight and connect themes across programmes of work across team and broader organisation A solid understanding of current health issues and the challenges facing NHS boards
