The Department of Anaesthesia benefits from modern facilities across Leeds General Infirmary and St Jamess University Hospital, supporting one of the largest and most diverse anaesthetic services in the UK. Consultants have access to a broad range of tertiary and specialist services, including major trauma, neurosciences, vascular surgery, transplantation, cancer services, paediatric surgery, obstetrics, and mechanical thrombectomy. The Department maintains strong links with the University of Leeds and provides excellent opportunities for teaching, research, innovation, and professional development within a collaborative and supportive environment.
Main duties of the job Applicants should have established skills in general adult anaesthesia, with experience in obstetric and major general anaesthesia. Excellent communication and team working skills and a strong commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and a research interest is desirable.
Consideration will be given to applicants who wish to work full or part time and those wishing to job share.

The successful applicant should possess FRCA (or equivalent) and should be included on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at the time of interview, if currently within a training programme within the UK. In accordance with the consultant appointment regulations, all other categories of doctors must be on the Specialist Register.
If shortlisted, you will be required to give a 10-minute presentation on:

The Department of Anaesthesia at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is one of the largest anaesthetic departments in the UK, employing over 270 Consultant Anaesthetists, each contributing a range of subspecialty interests and expertise. The Department provides services across two major acute teaching hospital sites: Leeds General Infirmary (LGI) and St James’s University Hospital (SJUH).
Consultants benefit from shared secretarial support, shared office accommodation and individual access to IT facilities and computers. The Department has a strong commitment to education and training, with Specialist and Senior Registrars attached to the Department as part of recognised postgraduate training programmes.
