Job summary
We are seeking skilled and enthusiastic Band 7 nurses with extensive experience in caring for critically unwell patients to join our Critical Care Outreach Team at St George's Hospital.
Established in 2019, our Critical Care Outreach Service is committed to providing excellent, compassionate care to acutely unwell and deteriorating patients throughout the hospital, alongside supporting education, clinical development and quality improvement.
As a Band 7 Critical Care Outreach Nurse Practitioner, you will play a key role in supporting the Trust's approach to the recognition and management of deterioration, providing expert clinical assessment, timely intervention and escalation, while sharing your knowledge and developing the skills and confidence of colleagues across the Trust.
You will be joining a stable, dedicated and highly experienced team of Nurse Practitioners who are passionate about critical care outreach, supporting one another and continually developing the service. Main duties of the job
As a Band 7 Critical Care Outreach Nurse Practitioner, you will undertake clinical, teaching and management responsibilities. You will be required to demonstrate significant experience in caring for critically ill patients, have a specialist course in a critical care or Emergency area and have a minimum of 2 years in a Band 6 role or above, with shift leading experience. This post requires motivation, flexibility and initiative, the ability to prioritise workload in challenging situations and excellent communication skills. The applicant should be able to demonstrate the use of evidence-based practice and be proactive in managing change.
The main duties of the role include:
triage of acutely ill adult in-patients, autonomous rapid and advanced patient assessment, clinical intervention, care delivery and documentation providing critical care treatment where and when the patient needs it, irrespective of location safely transferring patients into critical care and supporting their needs holistically on step down from critical care supporting ward staff in caring for deteriorating patients and developing their skills through education and role-modelling responsible for identifying and assessing complex clinical and non-clinical issues, implementing resolutions and monitoring/auditing outcomes, leading quality improvement projects to promote the safety of adult patients and improve the care of deteriorating adults

Critical Care Outreach at St George's began in December 2019 and was rapidly tested when the trust had to expand its critical care capacity for the COVID-19 pandemic. We are a 24/7 service with a combined focus on clinical, educational and quality improvement excellence to improve the care of deteriorating adult patients. CCOT is continuing to grow and develop in response to the changing needs of deteriorating ward patients. This gives you the opportunity to join a service that is dynamic, open-minded and exciting! The Critical Care services at St George's University Hospital NHS Trust are expanding, with a plan to increase our 60 + critical care beds in a new state of the art facility on the Tooting site, there is also an ICU follow up service and research team. This means there is potential for development within critical care.

The main site, St George's Hospital in Tooting - one of the country's principal teaching hospitals - is shared with St George's, University of London, which trains medical students and carries out advanced medical research. St George's Hospital also hosts the St George's, University of London and Kingston University Faculty of Health and Social Care Sciences, which is responsible for training a wide range of healthcare professionals from across the region. As well as acute hospital services, we provide a wide variety of specialist and community services to patients of all ages following integration with Community Services Wandsworth in 2010. Come and join our rapidly developing multidisciplinary Critical Care Outreach team. Successful applicants will be part of a specialist team of nurses and doctors supported by an Outreach Matron/Advanced Nurse Practitioner and Critical Care Medical Consultant. We provide expert clinical skills, holistic care and support to the acutely unwell or deteriorating ward patients.
Requirements:
Registered Nurse
Appropriate Critical Care qualifications
Leadership experience within ICU
Leadership skills in managing conflict, challenging situations
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Able to work independently
Transfer of critical care patient experience
Previous Band 7 experience
ALS Provider
