Full-Time and Permanent; 7.5 Hours/Day; 252 Days/Year; 12 Months/Year; Grade D DEFINITION The employee who serves in this position will support the planning, execution, and evaluation of communications and marketing initiatives that strengthens Norfolk Public School's brand, increase engagement, and advance strategic priorities. This position serves as a project manager and communications professional, coordinating campaigns across digital, print, social media, internal communications, public relations, and community engagement. The coordinator works collaboratively across departments to ensure consistent messaging, effective storytelling, and timely delivery of communications that inform, inspire, and build trust among stakeholders. The employee is also responsible for developing relationships with Norfolk Public Schools staff, partner agencies and for project management, scheduling and tracking of distributed work. SUPERVISION Work is performed under the general supervision of the Senior Director of Communications and Community Engagement. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE CLASS (May not include all duties performed by each position in the class.) Coordinate implementation of the organization's strategic communications plan. Develop communication strategies supporting organizational priorities, initiatives, and campaigns. Manage integrated marketing campaigns across multiple platforms. Develop creative concepts and visual campaigns aligned with organizational messaging and strategy. Prepare print-ready files and coordinate with vendors when necessary. Write and edit: news releases, feature stories, website content, newsletters, marketing copy, executive messages, email communications and annual reports Identify and develop compelling stories highlighting organizational achievements, employees, clients, students, or community impact. Update website content using the organization's content management system. Assist in developing relationships with local, regional, and industry media. Ensure mobile responsiveness and cross-browser compatibility. Develop communication materials that strengthen organizational culture and employee engagement. Coordinate communications supporting community partnerships and assist in planning public events and outreach activities.. Manage multiple communication projects simultaneously. Track key performance indicators (KPIs) for communication and marketing efforts. Conduct audience research and evaluate campaign effectiveness. Collaborate with leadership and teams to develop visual storytelling strategies. Support content creation for digital campaigns, newsletters, and social media. Ensure all communications materials align with brand voice and messaging. Performs other duties and manages special projects as assigned. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Strong storytelling and copywriting abilities. Knowledge of strategic communications and integrated marketing principles. Experience with social media management platforms. Familiarity with website content management systems. Strong organizational and project management skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines. Ability to work collaboratively across departments. Strong customer service and relationship-building skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment; work under pressure with tight deadlines, including emergency and critical situations and the ability to calmly communicate with audiences, internal and external, during critical situations. Demonstrated ability to effectively organize and present information, both orally and in writing. Ability to work within difficult time constraints and under stressful conditions. MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, English, Digital Media, or a related field. Minimum of four years of professional experience in graphic design, website development, and media production. LICENSE/CERTIFICATION None. UNUSUAL DEMANDS Work is performed in an office setting as well as throughout the school division and school community. Work is frequently subject to deadlines and requires attendance at weekend and evening meetings held locally and throughout the state and involves all employee groups and broad-mandated programs. Additionally, work requires continuous professional development in the areas of communications, media, community, and public relations.
