About this role
The Pharmacy Assistant placement provides an opportunity to gain practical experience working as part of a busy community pharmacy team. The successful candidate will develop their customer service, retail and pharmacy skills within a professional healthcare environment. Key areas of learning will include meeting and greeting customers, assisting them with general queries and helping customers select appropriate healthcare, wellbeing and retail products. The Pharmacy Assistant will support the team with stock management, including receiving stock, stock rotation, checking expiry dates and maintaining store planograms and displays. The role will also provide exposure to the dispensary environment, including basic organisation, gathering of items and general support duties under the direction of the pharmacy team. The successful candidate will also help maintain high standards of housekeeping throughout the pharmacy, ensuring that customer and clinical areas are kept clean, organised and professional in accordance with pharmacy procedures, clinical standards and best practice.. This is a training and work experience opportunity; no prior experience in this role is necessary. Accredited and/or sector recognised training will be provided to support your placement. Participants are eligible to participate in the WPEP QQI Work Experience Module which was developed by the Education & Training Boards in collaboration with the Department of Social Protection. This optional module will fulfil your accredited training requirements for the WPEP. Accredited / Sector-Recognised Training – 20 Hours • Introduction to Community Pharmacy & Role of the Pharmacy Assistant • OTC Medicines – Regulations, Sale & Supply • Effective Patient Questioning, WWHAM & Appropriate Pharmacist Referral • Pain Management & Common Analgesics • Coughs, Colds, Influenza & Respiratory Conditions • Gastrointestinal Conditions – Indigestion, Reflux, Diarrhoea & Constipation • Skin Conditions & Treatments • Women's Health, Children's Health & Family Healthcare • Vitamins, Minerals, Supplements & Healthy Living • Smoking Cessation & Health Promotion • Pharmacy Services & Common Conditions • Patient Safety, Confidentiality & Professional Conduct Structured On-the-Job Training – 40 Hours The employee will complete 40 hours of supervised practical training within the community pharmacy. • Pharmacy Induction & Governance • OTC Counter Training • OTC Product & Pharmacy Knowledge • Dispensary Introduction & Prescription Workflow • Dispensary Stock Management • Supporting Pharmacy Services • Customer Service & Communication • Practical Competency & Supervised Assessment
