Position Summary
The Frozen Supervisor supports and oversees the daily operation of the frozen foods department, ensuring products are properly stocked, rotated, merchandised, and maintained at appropriate temperatures. This position provides direction to associates, maintains inventory and product availability, controls shrink, and ensures the department remains clean, organized, safe, and customer-ready. Key Responsibilities • Oversee daily frozen department operations and establish work priorities. • Coordinate stocking, replenishment, facing, rotation, and merchandising activities. • Ensure frozen shelves, cases, doors, endcaps, and promotional displays are properly stocked and organized. • Monitor product availability and respond promptly to low-stock and out-of-stock conditions. • Provide friendly, courteous, and professional customer service. • Assist customers with locating products and answering product-related questions. • Coordinate associate assignments, breaks, stocking responsibilities, and department coverage as needed. • Monitor inventory levels and communicate ordering or replenishment needs to appropriate leadership. • Receive, organize, rotate, and properly store frozen merchandise. • Maintain organized freezer back-stock to support efficient replenishment. • Follow proper product rotation and date-control procedures. • Help minimize shrink through proper product handling, rotation, inventory management, and accurate stocking. • Ensure merchandise is accurately priced, signed, tagged, and displayed. • Coordinate promotional changes, seasonal displays, resets, and advertised items. • Maintain appropriate product temperatures and immediately address or communicate temperature concerns. • Monitor freezer cases and equipment for proper operation. • Identify damaged, expired, thawed, or otherwise unsellable merchandise and follow proper procedures for handling it. • Assist with inventory counts and other product-control activities. • Maintain clean, organized, and safe aisles, freezer areas, displays, and workspaces. • Follow company policies related to food safety, workplace safety, security, and loss prevention. • Communicate product, equipment, inventory, staffing, or operational concerns to store leadership. • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned based on business needs. Leadership Responsibilities • Provide daily direction and support to associates working within the frozen department. • Establish stocking and merchandising priorities based on department needs. • Train associates on stocking, rotation, merchandising, temperature control, customer service, and safety procedures. • Coach associates on productivity, accuracy, organization, and department standards. • Monitor completed work to ensure stocking, facing, rotation, and cleanliness expectations are met. • Lead by example by demonstrating excellent customer service, teamwork, urgency, and professionalism. • Maintain a positive, respectful, and productive work environment. • Communicate department priorities and expectations clearly to associates. • Adjust assignments and priorities as business needs change throughout the shift. • Work collaboratively with grocery management and store leadership to support overall store operations. Stocking & Merchandising Responsibilities • Monitor frozen cases and displays throughout the day to maintain product availability. • Coordinate replenishment from freezer back-stock and incoming deliveries. • Ensure merchandise is stocked in the correct location and properly faced. • Maintain full, organized, and customer-ready frozen displays. • Ensure promotional and seasonal merchandise is properly stocked, signed, and displayed. • Build and maintain endcaps and promotional displays as assigned. • Maintain accurate shelf tags, signs, and product pricing. • Identify missing, damaged, or incorrect signage and coordinate necessary corrections. • Assist with department resets, product transitions, and merchandising changes. • Maintain organized freezer storage areas to support efficient product rotation and replenishment. Inventory & Shrink Control • Monitor inventory levels and product movement. • Identify low-stock, out-of-stock, overstock, and excessive back-stock conditions. • Assist with ordering and replenishment activities as assigned. • Ensure incoming frozen merchandise is received, stored, and rotated properly. • Follow appropriate rotation procedures to maintain product quality and minimize product loss. • Monitor expiration and best-by dates and promptly address outdated merchandise. • Identify damaged or unsellable products and follow established procedures. • Assist with inventory counts and product-control activities. • Research or communicate inventory discrepancies when identified. • Help reduce shrink by maintaining accurate inventory, organized storage, and proper product handling. Food Safety & Temperature Control • Maintain frozen products at appropriate temperatures. • Monitor freezer cases and storage areas for temperature or equipment concerns. • Follow proper procedures when products are found outside required temperature conditions. • Minimize the amount of time frozen merchandise remains outside temperature-controlled environments during stocking. • Follow established food safety and product-handling procedures. • Maintain clean and sanitary freezer cases, shelving, storage areas, and workspaces. • Immediately communicate refrigeration or freezer equipment issues to appropriate leadership. • Follow established procedures for handling products affected by equipment or temperature problems. Customer Service Responsibilities • Greet and acknowledge customers in a friendly and professional manner. • Assist customers with locating frozen merchandise. • Respond promptly to customer questions and requests. • Help maintain clean, organized, accessible, and customer-ready aisles. • Ensure stocking activities and equipment do not unnecessarily interfere with the customer shopping experience. • Promote a customer-first approach among associates working within the department. Qualifications • Strong customer service and leadership skills. • Effective communication, organization, and problem-solving abilities. • Ability to provide clear direction and support to associates. • Strong attention to inventory accuracy, product availability, rotation, and merchandising. • Ability to prioritize responsibilities in a fast-paced retail environment. • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. • Ability to learn inventory, stocking, receiving, rotation, and merchandising procedures. • Ability to safely operate approved stocking and material-handling equipment after proper training. • Ability to work effectively in cold and freezer environments. • Dependable attendance and punctuality. • Previous grocery, frozen foods, stocking, merchandising, inventory, or retail leadership experience is preferred. Physical Requirements • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, reach, lift, carry, push, pull, and perform repetitive movements throughout the shift. • Ability to safely lift and move merchandise, cases, boxes, displays, and department supplies as required. • Ability to perform repetitive stocking, facing, rotation, and merchandising activities. • Ability to safely use carts, pallet jacks, ladders, step stools, and other approved equipment after proper training. • Ability to regularly work in freezers, refrigerated areas, and varying temperatures. Work Environment The Frozen Supervisor works throughout the frozen foods department, sales floor, freezer storage areas, backroom, and receiving areas.
