Job Title: Electro-Mechanical TechnicianJob DescriptionThe Electro-Mechanical Technician supports a strong safety culture while performing a wide range of instrument, mechanical, and electrical maintenance activities in a large food ingredients manufacturing environment. This role handles daily and special assignments, troubleshoots complex equipment issues, executes repairs and preventive maintenance, and maintains accurate documentation using a computerized maintenance management system. The technician operates mobile equipment, uses specialized tools, and collaborates closely with maintenance and operations teams to keep production equipment running reliably and efficiently. Responsibilities • Actively support and participate in a safety culture focused on zero injuries and illnesses, complying with all plant rules and safety requirements, as well as SO and FSSC requirements. • Perform daily maintenance assignments of an instrument, mechanical, or electrical nature, along with special assignments as requested by maintenance leadership and management. • Train and develop proficiency in instrument, mechanical, and electrical disciplines to effectively troubleshoot problems and perform repair work on production equipment. • Perform necessary cleaning tasks and maintain good housekeeping practices in all work areas. • Use the SAP maintenance management program to write notifications, create work orders, locate stock materials, and review equipment history. • Operate company mobile equipment, including but not limited to forklifts, scissor lifts, and JLG machines, in a safe and efficient manner. • Replace electric motors, ensuring correct wiring, alignment, protection devices, and rotation are verified and properly set. • Perform instrumentation tasks such as changing out field controllers, probes, automatic valves, and operators as required. • Conduct instrument calibrations for field instruments including flow meters, temperature probes, pH meters, density meters, pressure transmitters, level transmitters, and other field devices. • Perform welding and fabrication functions needed to repair or modify equipment and components. • Carry out lathe and milling operations to machine parts and support mechanical repairs. • Perform assembly and rigging functions required to safely disassemble, move, and reassemble equipment during maintenance activities. • Execute alignment and balancing functions to ensure proper operation and extended life of rotating equipment. • Use specialty hand and shop tools such as volt and amp meters, meggers, DC voltage equipment, hot sticks, static trip test sets, ground fault testers, drills, grinders, cut-off saws, and wrenches. • Prioritize and organize work to make efficient use of parts, tools, equipment, and manpower, determining appropriate resources for each assignment. • Perform preventive maintenance inspections, safety inspections, and audits as assigned, and provide timely, accurate documentation of findings. • Troubleshoot PLC systems and diagnose low, medium, and high voltage electrical problems, identifying proper repairs and corrective actions. • Read and understand ladder diagrams and general control circuit systems, and review maintenance documentation for accuracy. • Communicate the status of daily assignments and ongoing work to maintenance supervisors, maintenance planners, operations leads, engineers, value stream managers, and the maintenance manager as required. • Respond to plant call-ins to troubleshoot instrument, electrical, or mechanical problems, and make appropriate assessments when additional assistance is needed to complete repairs. • Support weekend, holiday, and overtime work as required by the production and maintenance schedule. Essential Skills • Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED. • Prior instrument, mechanical, and electrical maintenance experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment. • Knowledge and practical experience in the use of hand and shop tools for mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation work. • Demonstrated effective troubleshooting methods and a track record of successful problem resolution. • Ability to lift and carry up to 55 pounds, climb ladders, and work at heights as required by maintenance tasks. • Ability to learn new tasks and assignments, with a demonstrated willingness to remain flexible and support change. • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with maintenance and operations personnel. • Prior experience maintaining low, medium, and high voltage equipment. • Prior experience maintaining analog and digital control systems. • Willingness and ability to work weekends and holidays as the schedule requires, and to work overtime when requested. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Instrument Electrical Certification is a plus. • Working knowledge of SAP maintenance module is preferred. • Experience as an electro-mechanical technician, maintenance mechanic, or PLC technician is beneficial. • Familiarity with PLCs and AC/DC motors used in production equipment. • Comfort using specialized electrical and instrumentation test equipment such as meters, meggers, and diagnostic tools. • Ability to perform basic welding, fabrication, lathe, and milling operations. • Experience troubleshooting and repairing production equipment in a manufacturing setting. Work EnvironmentThis role is based in a large food ingredients manufacturing facility in Belcamp, MD, with a fairly clean working environment compared to many industrial settings. Work is performed around production equipment and process systems, using a variety of hand tools, shop tools, welding and fabrication equipment, and electrical test instruments. The position involves operating mobile equipment such as forklifts, scissor lifts, and JLG machines, and working at heights when necessary. Steel-toed boots are required as part of the dress code, and adherence to all plant safety rules, SO and FSSC requirements is expected. The schedule may include weekends, holidays, and overtime to meet production and maintenance needs. Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Belcamp, MD. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $33.67 - $33.67/hr.
