Job Title: Forklift Operator / Shipper-ReceiverJob DescriptionThis role is a highly versatile position responsible for managing the full flow of materials within a food manufacturing facility. You will handle inbound receiving, inventory management, material handling, and outbound shipping while operating various powered industrial vehicles. You will play a key role in maintaining safety, quality, and efficiency standards and support continuous improvement initiatives across all warehouse and logistics functions. Responsibilities • Verify all incoming shipments of raw materials, packaging, and finished goods by comparing Bills of Lading (BOLs) and Purchase Orders (POs) to confirm correct quantities, delivery dates, and specifications. • Determine the proper disposition of received materials and generate accurate receiving records and reports. • Safely unload and stage inbound materials using powered industrial vehicles and manual handling equipment. • Oversee the unloading and transfer of bulk raw materials such as glucose, glycerin, and sucrose into designated storage tanks, ensuring accurate inventory tracking and coordinating quality assurance sampling. • Deliver non-inventoried supplies directly to the appropriate departments in a timely manner. • Maintain organized and accurate records for purchase orders, receiving transactions, external storage documentation, and material returns. • Prepare, pick, and consolidate finished goods for outbound shipments in accordance with customer orders, packaging requirements, and loading procedures. • Operate automated equipment, including auto-palletizers, to efficiently process and stage finished products. • Load and secure outbound trailers, including shipments of rejected or unfinished goods, and complete all required shipping documentation. • Arrange and process courier shipments for internal departments, ensuring proper documentation and timely delivery. • Maintain accurate truck logbooks and coordinate the return of empty pallets and other recyclable or waste materials. • Follow all safety policies and procedures, proactively identify and report potential hazards, and support a safe work environment. • Uphold high standards of cleanliness, organization, and security across all warehouse, receiving, and shipping areas. • Operate forklifts and other equipment safely and efficiently, consistently meeting or exceeding productivity and quality expectations. • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives such as Lean and 5S, supporting process optimization, waste reduction, and problem-solving activities. • Promptly report deviations from standard operating procedures, equipment issues, or operational concerns to supervisors. • Perform additional related duties as assigned to support warehouse and manufacturing operations. Essential Skills • Valid external forklift certification on Raymond Reach and Dockstocker equipment. • 24 years of experience as a forklift operator in a manufacturing or warehousing environment. • Hands-on experience with shipping and receiving processes, including creating documentation and Bills of Materials. • Experience with inventory control, including RF scanner use for tracking and verification. • Proficiency with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and ERP systems such as SAP, S/4HANA, Oracle or similar platforms. • Demonstrated ability to perform material handling, loading, shipping, receiving, and order picking safely and efficiently. • Ability to operate Crown Reach, counterbalance forklifts, dock stockers, and hand trucks. • Ability to use desktop label guns and related warehouse printing equipment. • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in documentation, recordkeeping, and inventory management. • Ability to follow standard operating procedures and adhere to safety and quality requirements. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Experience working in a food manufacturing or GMP-regulated environment is an asset. • Comfort with lifting up to 50 lbs as required by material handling tasks. • Familiarity with SAP, with the ability to adapt to S/4HANA during system transitions. • Experience using Intermec and Ricoh printers or similar industrial printing devices. • Exposure to continuous improvement practices such as Lean and 5S. • Strong organizational skills and the ability to maintain clean, orderly, and secure work areas. • Good communication skills to coordinate with production, quality, and logistics teams. Work EnvironmentThis position is based in a food manufacturing facility where Halls candy is produced, operating under strict Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards. The environment is clean, organized, and regulated, with a noticeable menthol smell and elevated noise levels typical of industrial production. You must follow all GMP procedures and site-specific safety protocols at all times. The role involves working with powered industrial vehicles such as Crown Reach trucks, counterbalance forklifts, dock stockers, and hand trucks, as well as using SAP (with a planned transition to S/4HANA), Intermec and Ricoh printers, and desktop labeling equipment. Shifts rotate weekly between days (7:00 a.m. to 3:25 p.m.) and afternoons (3:25 p.m. to 11:50 p.m.), providing a structured schedule in a fast-paced, high-volume warehouse and production environment. Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Scarborough, ON. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $22.00 - $23.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
