Job Title: Welder and FabricatorJob DescriptionA custom job shop is seeking a skilled welder and fabricator to support its continued growth. In this role, you independently gather materials, interpret blueprints and welding symbols, and perform flux-core welding on mild steel for a variety of structural steel projects. When welding work slows, you contribute to other shop activities such as material handling, painting, and general fabrication, ensuring projects move smoothly from start to finish. Responsibilities • Interpret and read blueprints, drawings, and welding symbols to understand project requirements and specifications. • Select, gather, and stage the appropriate materials and components needed for each job without direct supervision. • Perform flux-core (FCAW) welding on mild steel in a custom job shop environment, ensuring strong, clean, and accurate welds. • Carry out MIG welding and fabrication tasks as required for structural steel and other custom projects. • Set up welding equipment and tools, verify proper settings, and maintain equipment in safe working condition. • Assist with general fabrication work, including cutting, fitting, and assembling structural steel components. • Support shop operations during downtime by moving materials, painting parts, and helping with other production tasks. • Follow all safety procedures and shop guidelines to maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area. • Collaborate with team members to complete projects on time and to quality standards. Essential Skills • Proficiency in flux-core (FCAW) welding on mild steel in a production or job shop environment. • Hands-on experience with MIG welding for structural steel and fabrication projects. • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and welding symbols accurately. • Strong fabrication skills, including measuring, cutting, fitting, and assembling steel components. • Capability to independently gather and organize materials and tools required for each job. • Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality welds and fabricated parts. • Understanding of basic shop safety practices and safe operation of welding and fabrication equipment. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Experience working in a custom job shop or structural steel fabrication environment. • Comfort assisting with ancillary tasks such as painting, material handling, and general shop support. • Ability to adapt to a variety of projects and changing priorities throughout the day. • Willingness to learn new techniques and expand welding and fabrication skill sets over time. Work EnvironmentThis role is based in a shop environment that focuses on structural steel projects and custom fabrication work. You work primarily on first shift, Monday through Thursday from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with occasional work on Fridays as needed. The setting is a traditional fabrication shop with welding equipment, steel materials, and tools commonly used for MIG, flux-core (FCAW), and general fabrication tasks. You can expect a hands-on, active workday that involves standing, moving materials, and working around fabrication and painting operations in a production-oriented environment. Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Knapp, WI. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $22.00 - $26.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
