Job Title: Set-Up OperatorJob DescriptionThis role is ideal for experienced machine operators who enjoy hands-on work in a structured manufacturing environment. You will set up and operate production machinery, troubleshoot issues, perform preventative maintenance, and ensure high-quality output. New hires complete a comprehensive training program on 1st shift before transitioning to 2nd or 3rd shift, with clear performance reviews and significant opportunities for growth and long-term career development. Responsibilities • Set up and operate production machinery according to work instructions and specifications. • Machine parts and perform final inspection on products to ensure they meet quality standards. • Make adjustments to machinery, including heights, speeds, and feeds, to optimize performance and product quality. • Read and work from drawings and blueprints to complete jobs accurately and efficiently. • Obtain and stage raw materials prior to starting assigned jobs. • Organize finished product into correct areas and maintain orderly workstations. • Troubleshoot machine issues and perform basic preventative maintenance to minimize downtime. • Follow all safety procedures and use required personal protective equipment, including steel-toe footwear. • Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet production goals and quality requirements. • Participate in training on 1st shift and apply learned skills when transitioning to 2nd or 3rd shift. • Work overtime when needed, while maintaining consistent productivity and quality. Essential Skills • Proven experience in machine operating or higher-level assembly work in a production or manufacturing environment. • Hands-on experience with setting up machinery for production runs. • Ability to troubleshoot machinery and perform preventative maintenance tasks. • Capability to read and work from blueprints and technical drawings. • Experience performing quality checks and final inspections on machined products. • Physical ability to lift up to 45 pounds safely and repeatedly. • Comfort working on a large manufacturing floor with production equipment. • Reliability in adhering to shift schedules, including 2nd and 3rd shift assignments. • Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high quality standards. • Basic mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills in a production setting. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Experience working in a fabrication shop is highly transferable and beneficial. • Background in the automotive industry beyond basic oil changes translates well to this role. • Prior experience in unionized production environments is a plus. • Familiarity with preventive maintenance programs and production workflows. • Comfort working with climate-controlled manufacturing equipment and tools. • Willingness to participate in ongoing training and skill development. • Ability to work effectively in a structured environment with performance reviews and defined growth paths. Work EnvironmentThe role is based on a large, well-lit, climate-controlled manufacturing floor equipped with production machinery and inspection stations. New hires train on 1st shift from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. before moving to their assigned shift. Regular operating schedules include 2nd shift from 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. with a shift differential, and 3rd shift from 10:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. with a higher shift differential. Overtime is available but not mandatory, providing flexibility while supporting production demands. Steel-toe footwear is required, and the environment emphasizes safety, organization, and consistent production flow. Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Chicopee, MA. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $24.29 - $24.29/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
