Job Title: Machine BuilderJob DescriptionThe Machine Builder assembles custom automated equipment, fixtures, and machinery from start to finish by interpreting detailed blueprints and drawings. This role focuses on installing, aligning, and integrating mechanical and automation components, including conveyors, guarding, tooling, bearings, gearboxes, shafts, and pneumatic systems. The position requires strong mechanical aptitude, hands-on assembly skills, and the ability to support both hydraulic and pneumatic systems in a climate-controlled, first-shift shop environment. Responsibilities • Assemble custom automated equipment, fixtures, and machinery using detailed blueprints and drawings. • Interpret and work from blueprints, mechanical drawings, schematics, and materials lists to complete builds accurately. • Install and align machine frames, conveyors, guarding, tooling, and automation components to meet design specifications. • Assemble and install mechanical components such as bearings, gearboxes, shafts, and related hardware. • Assist with the installation and integration of pneumatic components including cylinders, valves, regulators, and manifolds. • Support hydraulic and pneumatic systems by helping with routing, connections, and functional testing. • Use hand tools, power tools, grinders, drill presses, and other shop equipment to perform precise mechanical assembly and adjustments. • Measure and verify dimensions using tape measures and precision measuring tools to ensure proper fit and alignment. • Perform basic mechanical and electrical troubleshooting on automated equipment during assembly and testing. • Assist with wiring and electrical connections related to automation equipment as needed, following diagrams and safety practices. • Operate machinery and shop equipment safely while building, modifying, and finishing machine components. • Collaborate with engineering and other team members to clarify design intent and resolve build issues. • Inspect completed assemblies for quality, functionality, and adherence to specifications before release. • Maintain a clean, organized work area and follow all safety procedures within the shop environment. Essential Skills • At least 2 years of machine building or mechanical assembly experience. • Proven experience reading and interpreting blueprints and mechanical drawings. • Hands-on experience working with automation equipment, robotics, conveyors, and industrial machinery. • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical issues. • Ability to use precision measuring tools and common hand and power tools to perform accurate assembly work. • Proficiency with mechanical assembly tasks including grinding, drilling, and operating machine shop tools. • Ability to work with electrical and automation-related tasks such as basic wiring and troubleshooting. • Comfort working with hydraulic and pneumatic systems, including components like cylinders, valves, regulators, and manifolds. • Ability to follow detailed instructions and documentation while maintaining high attention to detail. • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently as well as within a team environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Mechatronics degree or formal training in mechatronics is a plus. • Tooling or tool and die experience is an advantage. • Machining or machinist experience is beneficial for working with custom components. • Experience using drill presses, grinders, and other shop equipment. • Familiarity with automation, robotics, and custom machinery projects from concept through build. • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics is helpful. • Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with engineering and build teams. • Organized work habits and a commitment to quality and safety. Work EnvironmentThis role is based in a climate-controlled shop designed to provide a comfortable and safe workspace throughout the year. Standard hours are on first shift, with schedules of either 5:00 AM to 1:30 PM or 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM, offering consistent daytime work. You will work with a variety of tools and equipment, including hand tools, power tools, drill presses, grinders, and automation machinery, while collaborating closely with engineering and build teams on custom automation and robotics projects. The setting encourages hands-on problem solving, attention to detail, and adherence to safety practices in a clean, organized production environment. Job Type & LocationThis is a Permanent position based out of La Vergne, TN. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $56160.00 - $72800.00/yr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.Stable 1st-shift work environment. 6% 401(k) match.
