Job Title: Yard Technician Storage Units and Mobile OfficesJob DescriptionThis role focuses on preparing, maintaining, and inspecting products in a busy yard environment. You ensure that products are clean, repaired, and fully operational for customers by performing a variety of hands-on tasks such as paint and drywall touch-ups, minor repairs, and pressure washing. You interact directly with customers to check rentals in and out, complete basic inspections, and support inventory control. The position is primarily outdoors and includes learning to operate a large forklift as part of daily yard operations.Responsibilities
• Perform general repair tasks including paint touch-ups, drywall repairs, and fixing dents using appropriate tools such as sledgehammers. • Use a pressure washer to clean and maintain overall yard cleanliness. • Provide customer service support on-site, answering questions and assisting with rental processes. • Perform inventory counts and help maintain accurate inventory records for units and equipment. • Learn to operate and safely use a large forklift. • Use hand and power tools to complete carpentry, light construction, and general labor tasks. • Support basic mechanical, electrical, and plumbing-related tasks as required within your skill set. • Follow all safety procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and contribute to a safe work environment. • Collaborate with a small team to meet deadlines and operational goals, including helping during busy periods. • Perform inspections for off-rent and on-rent buildings to verify condition and readiness. • Assist with general building maintenance and handyman-style tasks as needed around the yard. Essential Skills
• Hands-on construction or light industrial background, such as home renovations, general labor, carpentry, or building maintenance. • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude, with experience working on mechanical tasks such as car repairs or equipment fixes. • Basic electrical aptitude and comfort working around simple electrical wiring tasks within safety guidelines. • Basic plumbing aptitude and familiarity with simple plumbing-related tasks. • Proficiency with hand tools and power tools, including safe and effective use for repairs and maintenance. • Ability to perform preventive maintenance and general repair work on units and related equipment. • Comfort working in an outdoor environment for the majority of the workday. • Ability to learn and safely operate a large forklift; prior forklift experience is an asset but not required. • Strong safety awareness and consistent use of PPE and safe work practices. • Reliable attendance and willingness to be available during busy times. • Positive, go-getter attitude with a coachable and team-oriented mindset. • Customer service skills for interacting with renters during check-in, check-out, and inspections. • Basic inventory control skills, including counting and recording units or materials. Additional Skills & Qualifications
• background in carpentry, trades work, or building maintenance/handyman roles is highly beneficial. • Experience in hands-on electrical or plumbing fields is an advantage. • Prior forklift operating experience is preferred; in-house training is available if you do not have a forklift ticket. • Proven use of industrial skill sets either at home or on job sites, such as home renovations or car repairs. • Comfort working in a small team environment and supporting office staff as needed. • Interest in building a long-term career in a hands-on, growth-oriented role. • Willingness to learn all aspects of the yard operations and take on new responsibilities over time. The schedule is a daytime shift from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday, with a 30-minute unpaid lunch and some additional availability expected during busy periods. The environment emphasizes safety, including consistent use of appropriate PPE, and supports a practical, hands-on dress code suitable for outdoor, construction-style work. Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Calgary, AB. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $23.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
