Job Title: Forklift Operator / Clamp Truck OperatorJob DescriptionThis role operates clamp trucks and forklifts in a large indoor/outdoor warehouse complex to safely handle, move, and store large boxes and barrels of bulk tobacco. You will focus on efficient material handling, accurate inventory tracking, and maintaining a clean and orderly warehouse environment while loading and unloading tractor trailers and organizing product throughout multiple warehouse buildings. Responsibilities • Operate clamp trucks and various types of forklifts (stand-up, sit-down, reach truck, clamp forklift) to move large boxes and barrels of bulk tobacco safely and efficiently. • Stack containers of tobacco in designated areas to maximize space utilization and maintain safe storage practices. • Wrap and strap containers of tobacco to secure loads for storage and transportation. • Load and unload tractor trailers with containers of tobacco, ensuring proper placement and load stability. • Use RF scanners to track inventory, record product locations, and verify quantities accurately. • Maintain up-to-date inventory records, including product counts, warehouse locations, and movement of goods. • Perform general labor tasks associated with material handling and warehouse operations as needed. • Keep warehouses clean and sanitary by using brooms, blowers, and sweeper forklifts, and by following established housekeeping procedures. • Follow all safety guidelines and operating procedures for equipment and warehouse operations. • Work collaboratively with team members and supervisors to meet daily production and shipping goals. Essential Skills • Hands-on experience with material handling in a warehouse or similar environment. • Proficiency operating forklifts, including stand-up forklifts, sit-down forklifts, clamp forklifts, and reach trucks. • Experience operating clamp trucks to handle large containers and barrels safely. • Ability to use RF scanners to track inventory, record product locations, and manage stock movements. • Background in loading and unloading trucks and trailers in a warehouse or distribution setting. • Ability to perform general labor duties related to warehouse operations. • Strong attention to detail for accurate inventory tracking and product handling. • Reliability and punctuality to consistently meet scheduled shift times. • Coachability and willingness to learn and follow established processes and safety protocols. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Interest in obtaining or maintaining formal forklift certifications through structured training. • Willingness to participate in safety training and ongoing skills development programs. • Desire to grow into leadership roles supported by dedicated Team Lead training programs. • Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in a non-climate-controlled warehouse environment. • Comfort working with large, heavy products and operating industrial equipment in a busy warehouse setting. Work EnvironmentWork in a large warehouse complex that includes 52 warehouses spread across 90 acres, providing a dynamic and active setting. The environment includes both indoor and outdoor areas and is non-climate controlled, so conditions will vary with the seasons. The standard shift runs from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, offering a consistent daytime schedule. You will use industrial equipment such as clamp trucks, stand-up and sit-down forklifts, reach trucks, RF scanners, brooms, blowers, and sweeper forklifts as part of daily operations. Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Richmond, VA. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $19.00 - $19.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
