Job summary
Oakwood Lane Medical Practice has a great opportunity for a GP to join our team for 7 sessions per week, to include Thursday and Friday. The post is for 12 months to cover a maternity leave and will run from 23 November 2026 to December 2027.

Main duties of the job
Conducting face to face and virtual appointments
Processing PATCHS clinical queries and telephone triage
Participating in the on call rota and the triage lead in the Appointment Hub
Admin - arising directly from your caseload (referrals, investigations, results) and indirectly (reports, medicals, etc)
Support and debrief for junior doctors and medical students.

We operate in a large and modern purpose built medical centre with free parking in the LS8 area of Leeds.

Our skill mix is equally diverse. In addition to 11 GPs, 3 nurses, 2 Health Care Assistants and a Phlebotomist, we also have our own Pharmacy Technician and Mental Health Practitioner.
We are proud to have become a training practice and are currently supporting ST1 and FY2 Junior Doctors, as well as Year 1,2 & 3 medical students.
The clinical team are supported by a talented team of receptionists and administrators led by a Business Manager, Practice Manager and Asst Practice Manager and two Reception Supervisors.

Undertake a variety of duties, including surgery consultations, telephone consultations, video consultations and queriesShare of oncall days and lead for Appointment Hub triage.Visiting patients at home when requiredChecking and signing repeat prescriptions when requiredDealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashionMaking professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisationAssessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problemsScreening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illnessDeveloping care plans for health in consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocolsProviding counselling and health educationAdmitting or discharging patients to and from the caseload and referring to other care providers as appropriateRecording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standardsCollecting data for audit purposesCompiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding hand-written prescriptions whenever possible)Prescribing in accordance with the practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriateSupport and debrief of junior doctors and medical students.In general, the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.

GMC registration Licence to practice as a General Practitioner
