Volunteer Role - Unpaid position
Join our dedicated Patient Experience and Voluntary Services Team and make a real difference in your community. We are looking for compassionate and reliable volunteer pharmacy delivery drivers to help deliver essential medication and equipment directly to patients homes, ensuring they receive the care they need when they need it.
This role is vital in supporting patients who may be unable to collect items themselves, helping improve their experience and wellbeing. You'll be a part of a friendly and supportive team committed to providing outstanding service.
You will need:
A full, clean driving license and access to a reliable vehicle.Ability to travel across Barnsley and occasionally to other local sites.Good communication skills and a caring attitude.
Mileage expenses will be reimbursed, and full training will be provided.

Main duties of the job
Volunteer Pharmacy Delivery Drivers play a vital role in helping patients return home from hospital safely and without unnecessary delay.
By delivering urgent medication and essential equipment directly to patients' homes, volunteers help ensure patients have everything they need to continue their care and recovery at home. This valuable service supports timely hospital discharges, improves patient flow and contributes to a positive patient experience.
We are looking for reliable, compassionate individuals with a full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle. Volunteers should be confident driving across the local area and available to collect and deliver items at agreed times, typically between 4pm and 8pm, seven days a week. The role requires flexibility, as priorities can change, and the ability to remain calm and professional when dealing with unexpected situations.
As a representative of the Trust, you will communicate respectfully with patients, carers and staff, maintain confidentiality, uphold Trust values and behaviours, and present a professional appearance. You will work both independently and as part of a supportive team.
Full training and ongoing support will be provided, including any mandatory and role-specific training required for the role. In return, you will gain valuable experience, meet new people and make a genuine difference to patients and their families.
Mileage expenses are reimbursed in-line with current HMRC rates.

Person Specification
Experience Essential
Able to drive safely, follow road laws and maintain vehicle standards (fuel, oil, tyres, etc.). Reliable in collecting and delivering items at scheduled times. Handle confidential and sensitive items with discretion. Willing to adapt to changing schedules or requirements. Able to respond calmly to unexpected situations (e.g. delays, emergencies and route changes). Clear, polite and professional when interacting with patients, carers and staff. Dedicated to upholding the Values and Behaviours of the Organisation. Familiar with and adheres to Trust policies, procedures and local working practices. Willing to undertake mandatory and role-specific training and keep this up to date. Clean, smart and presentable appearance, wearing name badge and uniform at all times. Able to work both independently and as part of a team. Respectful and responsive to patients from different cultures, backgrounds and faiths. Able to communicate clearly and effectively with patients, carers, members of the public and staff. Committed to maintaining patient confidentiality at all times. Able to use discretion when working in sensitive situations. Works under the supervision and direction of the ward nursing team and Voluntary Services Coordinator. Notifies the ward and Voluntary Services Coordinator of any unplanned absence, such as sickness.
Qualifications Essential
Full UK driving licence Use of own vehicle with valid insurance, MOT and Tax. Please note, Volunteers must provide evidence of valid insurance (including cover for voluntary work), MOT certificate (for vehicles over three years old), and vehicle tax.
Disclosure and Barring Service Check This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
