An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the CBU1 Matron Team at Barnsley Hospital.
As the Matron you will be focused on patient safety, patient experience and quality assurance frameworks. You must be able to demonstrate a compassionate approach to the care of patients and the public, whilst also possessing the ability to ensure robust clinical operational demands are met.
The post holder will act as the professional Nurse Lead providing clinical advice, leadership development, monitoring and management of all nursing resources to facilitate excellent nursing practice ensuring the delivery of high quality, patient centred care
We are looking for an individual with extensive Band 7 experience. You will be a professional role model, demonstrating flexibility, visibility, and excellent communication skills to patients, families, staff and play a key role in influencing and supporting wider strategic drivers.
CBU1 covers a wide range of clinical areas from the Emergency Department, SDECs and AMU to Medical Wards and Outpatient Areas. The advertised post will cover a patch within the Medical Wards.
Main duties of the job
The Matron will support the ADON in providing dynamic, professional and operational management and leadership for wards/departments and specialist nurses.
The post holder will facilitate, support and empower wards/departments to manage their areas effectively, supporting the development of their ward staff and their services to ensure appropriate systems and processes are in place to ensure the continuity of safe and effective care at all times.
The post holder will support the delivery of the Trust's overall objectives and service priorities, with a particular focus on nursing practice, patient experience and involvement in the development of services and standards of cleanliness and quality care.
The post holder will be accessible and a visible presence, advising and supporting ward/department, patients and their families to ensure effective patient care across the whole patient pathway.

Experience Essential
Extensive experience of working at a senior level of band 7 or above within nursing/midwifery. Experience of managing a ward or department. Demonstrable experience of leading change & problem solving. Experience of standard setting and audit. Experience of influencing in clinical practice. Experience in undertaking research and/or publication.
Knowledge and Awareness Essential
Demonstrate specialist knowledge of clinical speciality underpinned by theoretical knowledge and relevant practical experience. Current professional and health service priorities. Clinical Governance and patient safety agendas. Health and Safety. Confidentiality. Safeguarding knowledge.
Qualifications Essential
1st Level Registered Nurse or Midwife as appropriate. Demonstrate a current in-depth knowledge of the national nursing agenda. Teaching qualification or demonstrable evidence of equivalent relevant experience. Educated to degree level. Educated to masters level or equivalent.
Desirable
Has led or been part of a research project. Trained in Root cause analysis.
