We are seeking a 0.5 WTE Band 8a Neurodevelopmental Pathway Lead to join our busy and dynamic CAMHS team in Havering. This is a senior clinical leadership role for an experienced clinician with expertise in neurodevelopmental assessment and confidence working with complexity across multidisciplinary and multi-agency systems.
The Neurodevelopmental Pathway is a dedicated assessment pathway within Havering CAMHS. The Pathway Lead will provide clinical and operational leadership for the day-to-day functioning of the pathway, supporting high-quality, timely and formulation-informed neurodevelopmental assessment and effective multidisciplinary decision-making.
The role combines advanced clinical practice, supervision and pathway leadership at team level. The post holder must hold a valid professional registration, with significant experience within the field and experience of supervising others. We welcome applications from appropriately qualified and registered mental health professionals who meet the essential requirements of the person specification and can demonstrate substantial experience of working with children and young people, neurodevelopmental presentations and complex CAMHS assessment.
Main duties of the job
Provide clinical and operational leadership for the day-to-day functioning of the Havering Neurodevelopmental Pathway. Support high-quality, timely autism and ADHD assessment, formulation and multidisciplinary decision-making in line with evidence-based practice and relevant guidance. Provide senior clinical oversight and consultation for complex neurodevelopmental presentations, including differential considerations, risk and co-occurring mental health needs. Support MDT allocation, assessment planning, case progression and effective use of pathway resources. Provide clinical supervision, consultation and professional support to multidisciplinary colleagues, promoting consistency and development of neurodevelopmental practice. Work collaboratively with pediatric, education, social care and other partner services to support coordinated assessment and care. Contribute to pathway development, audit, quality improvement and implementation of agreed service changes. Promote high-quality clinical recording, routine outcome and experience measurement where applicable, and effective use of service data and dashboards to understand activity, quality and pathway pressures. Contribute to clinical governance, including learning from incidents, PALS enquiries and complaints relevant to the pathway. About you You will hold a relevant postgraduate qualification (Master's level or equivalent) in a mental health or psychological discipline and current registration with an appropriate professional body.
You will have substantial post-qualification experience working with children and young people with moderate to severe and/or complex presentations within CAMHS or an equivalent CYP mental health setting, alongside demonstrable experience or specialist competence in neurodevelopmental assessment.
You will bring advanced skills in assessment and formulation, experience of clinical supervision and consultation, and the ability to influence MDT clinical decision-making while working constructively with uncertainty, professional difference and risk.
You will be able to combine strong clinical judgement with an understanding of pathway functioning, data quality, patient flow and service improvement, while working collaboratively across organisational and professional boundaries.
About Havering CAMHS Havering CAMHS provides specialist assessment and intervention for children and young people aged 0-18 with moderate to severe mental health needs. We work as an integrated multidisciplinary team alongside primary care, education, social care, paediatrics and specialist mental health services.
The service operates Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm, from our main site in Romford, a short walk from the Elizabeth Line. The post holder will be expected to work flexibly across the local area and undertake community-based work, including home visits where clinically indicated.
Havering CAMHS is continuing to develop its clinical pathways and operating model within the Children's Directorate, with a focus on high-quality care, clear clinical decision-making, effective use of resources and collaborative working.
Starting with NELFT
NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers, and attend a number of drop-in sessions focusing on engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Goodmayes Hospital.
