Main duties of the job

Providing a professional and welcoming reception service to patients.

Answering and managing telephone calls in a polite and efficient manner.

Booking, cancelling and rearranging appointments in accordance with practice procedures.

Ensuring patients are directed to the appropriate service or clinician.

Dealing with patient queries and escalating issues appropriately.

Processing administrative tasks and requests accurately.

Maintaining patient confidentiality and following information governance requirements.

Handling patient information and documentation securely.

Supporting clinicians and the wider practice team with administrative duties.

Liaising effectively with colleagues and external healthcare organisations where appropriate.

Maintaining an organised and professional reception environment.

Supporting the practice during busy periods and helping to ensure patients receive a high standard of service.

Following practice policies, procedures and health and safety requirements.

The successful candidate will join our busy reception team and provide a professional, friendly and efficient service to patients contacting or attending Riverside Medical Centre.

The role will involve welcoming patients, answering telephone calls, booking and managing appointments, dealing with patient queries and completing a range of administrative duties. The post holder will work closely with GPs, nurses, administrative staff and the wider practice team to support the smooth running of the practice.

The role requires excellent communication skills, a professional manner and the ability to remain calm and organised in a busy environment. The post holder must be able to maintain strict patient confidentiality, follow practice procedures and use initiative when dealing with patient requests.

Key ResponsibilitiesProvide a welcoming and professional reception service.

Answer telephone calls and deal with patient queries appropriately.

Book, cancel and rearrange appointments accurately.

Ensure patients are directed to the appropriate clinician or service.

Process administrative tasks and patient requests.

Maintain accurate and clear records.

Handle patient information securely and maintain confidentiality.

Follow safeguarding, information governance, health and safety and practice procedures.

Deal appropriately with complaints and challenging situations.

Work effectively as part of the reception and wider practice team.

Support colleagues during busy periods and use initiative when required.

Maintain a clean, organised and professional reception environment.

Attend training and participate in ongoing development and competency assessments.

Escalate concerns or queries appropriately when advice or support is required.

Previous GP or NHS experience is desirable but not essential, as full training and support will be provided to the successful candidate.
