Job summary
Spencer Private Hospitals (SPH) is looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic Operating Department Practitioner to join our busy theatre team. Working within our independent healthcare setting, you will play an important role in delivering safe, high-quality care to patients undergoing a wide range of elective surgical procedures.
You will have the opportunity to work across a varied range of elective surgical procedures, gaining experience in both day-case and more complex surgery. Working alongside an experienced multidisciplinary theatre team, you will contribute to the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care while continuing to develop your clinical skills and experience
Full Time (37.5 Hours) - Part Time Hours will be considered. Hours are worked across a 7 day working rota. Please specify your preference on the application form.
We offer enhancements for Saturdays and any work between 8pm and 7.30am on weekdays at time +30% of your basic salary rate. For Sundays and Bank Holidays at time + 60% of your basic salary rate.

Job Title: Operating Department/ Theatre Practitioner
Department: Theatre

JOB PURPOSE
To aid in the delivery of direct and indirect patient care throughout the operating department. KEY RELATIONSHIPS
Line Manager is the Anaesthetic Lead
Work in close liaison with the Theatre Staff and Consultants
Liaison with staffing agencies, other hospital departments, wards.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Clinical
Be prepared to work across the theatre specialities including anaesthetics, scrub and recovery, if required to do so, to meet the needs of the service. (Skill dependent)
To participate as members of a multidisciplinary team in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of individualised patient care. Demonstrating the ability to competently formulate and deliver care without direct supervision.
To provide skilled anaesthetic assistance to the Consultant Anaesthetist. Including checking of equipment, in line with local and national policies, including emergency kit.
To act as scrub practitioner, being responsible for preparing the theatre for surgery and preparing surgical equipment and supplies. Maintaining a sterile field and anticipating the surgeon's needs. Ensuring specimens are correctly labelled and dispatched.
To act as circulating member of the theatre team when required. Participate as a member of the theatre team and to carry out safety checks on swabs, instruments, blades, needles etc.
Providing post anaesthetic care, in PACU, following local and national policies.
Transferring and handing over patients to other departments, using appropriate communication methods.
Quality
They will ensure that standards are met as per national and local guidelines, including National Frameworks.
Is wholly accountable for their practice, in line with the NMC code/HCPC standards, and takes every reasonable opportunity to sustain and improve their knowledge and professional standards.
To ensure all written documentation is in accordance with Hospital and NMC code/HCPC standards.
Adhering to WHO guidelines and maintaining patient safety throughout the peri-operative environment.
To report promptly any accidents, incidents, complaints or unplanned occurrences to the Theatre leads and be competent in using the Datix system of incident reporting.
To participate in staff Personal Development Discussions and the identification of personal needs and set and evaluate personal objectives
To participate in in-house training sessions and attend meetings and discussions when required
Financial
To report any reductions in stock levels, breakages and faulty equipment and to maintain stock.
Infection Control
To undertake all mandatory and essential training in Infection Prevention and Control.
To familiarise themselves with and adhere to current Infection Prevention and Control policies relevant to them and their area of work.
To communicate any identified infection risks to the Infection Prevention and Control leads and where appropriate report any Healthcare Associated Infections in line with SPHs Incident Reporting Policy
Health and Safety
You must co-operate with management in discharging its responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and take reasonable health and safety precautions for yourself and others and ensure the agreed safety procedures are carried out to maintain a safe environment for patients, employees and visitors.

Use of computer software/hardware to input and analyse data/documents as appropriate e.g. audit tools, incident reporting, spreadsheets, ordering systems etc
