About this role
Support classroom leads and empower students experiencing housing transitions as an Afterschool Program Teacher's Assistant. In this active, hands-on role, you will assist with academic activities, foster a safe, welcoming environment, and provide targeted support to youth in Grades K–4 or Grades 5–8. Key Responsibilities
• Classroom & Academic Support: Guide small groups through homework assignments, early literacy, and basic math concepts under the direction of the lead teacher.
• Positive Behavior Support: Use trauma-informed strategies to encourage positive interactions, de-escalate minor disruptions, and model emotional regulation.
• Logistics & Daily Routines: Assist with snack distribution, activity setup/cleanup, attendance tracking, and safe transitions between learning spaces.
• 1-on-1 Mentorship: Offer focused attention to students who need extra encouragement, patience, or assistance staying on task.
Qualifications
• Youth Experience: Prior experience assisting in classroom, afterschool, camp, or childcare settings with elementary or middle school youth.
• Empathy & Equity Lens: Compassion for the unique social-emotional needs of McKinney-Vento students navigating housing instability.
• Adaptability & Teamwork: Strong communication skills, patience, and a dependable, proactive approach to supporting classroom needs.
