About this role
Make a targeted, daily impact as an Afterschool Homework Help Teacher, providing customized academic and emotional support to McKinney-Vento students tailored specifically to their developmental stage in Grades K–4 or Grades 5–8. Elementary Specialist (Grades K–4)
• Core Academic Focus: Early literacy, foundational phonics, reading comprehension, and basic math concepts.
• Supportive Environment: Integrate structured routines, movement breaks, and high-nurture strategies to help young learners reset after the school day.
• Developmental Goal: Build foundational learning habits, school engagement, and confidence through positive reinforcement.
Middle School Specialist (Grades 5–8)
• Core Academic Focus: Multi-subject homework assistance, essay writing, pre-algebra support, and long-term project planning.
• Executive Functioning: Coach students in organization, assignment tracking, time management, and self-advocacy.
• Developmental Goal: Promote autonomy, healthy peer relationships, and middle-to-high school transition readiness in a judgment-free space.
What We're Looking For
• Targeted Experience: Prior teaching, tutoring, or mentoring experience specifically within the K–4 or 5–8 age bands.
• Trauma-Informed Lens: Understanding of McKinney-Vento protections and the unique social-emotional needs of students experiencing housing transitions.
• Patience & Adaptability: Ability to differentiate instruction for varying academic levels and adapt flexibly to daily student needs.
