Job Goal(s): The Unified Schools Coordinator serves as the primary liaison and implementation lead for the Unified Schools Program. The Coordinator is responsible for fostering a culture of inclusion by bridging the gap between special education, general education, athletics, and the broader school community. This role ensures the successful execution of the three core Unified pillars: Unified Sports, Inclusive Youth Leadership, and Whole-School Engagement. Qualifications and Experience

• Experience working with students with and without intellectual disabilities in an educational or athletic setting.

• Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

• Ability to collaborate effectively across departments (Special Education, Athletics, Administration).

• Commitment to the "Unified" philosophy of meaningful involvement and inclusive culture.

• Familiarity with Special Olympics Unified Sports programming or willingness to undergo training immediately upon hire.

Key Responsibilities

• Program Leadership & Coordination

• Build, facilitate, and maintain the school-based Unified Leadership Team (including special education staff, general education teachers, administration, and students).

• Develop and manage the annual program calendar, ensuring all Unified Schools Program components are scheduled and aligned with school/district goals.

• Serve as the central point of contact for staff, coaches, students, and administration regarding Unified programming.

• Unified Sports Oversight

• Coordinate the scheduling, promotion, and operational logistics for Unified Sports teams (e.g., Basketball, Robotics, Bocce, Cornhole).

• Work with the Athletic Director to ensure equitable team recognition, facility use, and transportation.

• Identify and recruit volunteer coaches; ensure all coaches are properly trained on Special Olympics Unified Sports protocols.

• Oversee risk management, safety compliance, and ensure all student eligibility and consent documentation is finalized prior to participation.

• Inclusive Youth Leadership

• Facilitate the Unified Schools Club (or equivalent inclusive student group).

• Guide student leaders in planning and executing inclusive advocacy projects (e.g., peer mentoring, awareness campaigns, and community outreach).

• Provide leadership training and opportunities for students both with and without disabilities, ensuring meaningful peer partnerships.

• Whole-School Engagement

• Plan and implement at least two major whole-school awareness activities per year (e.g., "Respect Week," "Spread the Word: Inclusion," or school assemblies).

• Collaborate with media/arts departments to promote inclusion through video, art, and public displays.

• Coordinate school-wide communications, including announcements, social media updates, and newsletters, to celebrate milestones and inclusive achievements.

• Sustainability & Administrative Compliance

• Manage the program budget, including purchasing equipment/uniforms, tracking expenses, and pursuing grant opportunities or fundraising initiatives.

• Track and report program data, including participation numbers (athletes/partners), event attendance, and competition results for National Banner application standards.

• Regularly update administration and the school board on program outcomes and climate impact.

Certifications

• Valid CHRC

Education The coach must be at least 20 years of age, or a high school graduate. Working Schedule Flexible during and after school hours required. Travel Requirements Travel to accompany Unified Teams to events and games. Reports To: Building Administration/Director of Special Services Terms of Employment: As determined annually by the District. Stipend: $3,175 Evaluation: Completed annually by Building Administration/Director of Special Services
