About this role
TITLE: ELL Paraprofessional REPORTS TO: ELL Coordinator, Principal JOB GOAL: Assist in conducting learning experiences for students in ESL; perform a variety of clerical and supportive tasks for instructional personnel; and to perform related work as required. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Tutor or assist a group of children in English practices designed by an ESL teacher.
• Review and summarize learning of specific skills.
• Assist in monitoring student's academic progress.
• Oversees and supervises students during classroom activities.
• Maintains discipline in the absence of the teacher.
• Assist in communicating with Limited English Proficient students and families.
QUALIFICATION GUIDE: Knowledge of:
• General Concepts of child growth and development and child behavior characteristics.
• General Purposes and goals of public education.
• Second Language (Spanish, preferred) and educational vocabulary in both languages (Preferred)
Ability to:
• Assume responsibility for supervising students.
• Learn and utilize basic methods and procedures to be followed in instructional settings.
• Perform routine clerical work and basic arithmetical calculation.
• Demonstrate an understanding, patient, warm and receptive attitude toward children.
• Understand and carry out oral and written instruction.
• Communicate and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff, parents and the general public.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
• An Associate of Arts Degree or 60 College hours or High School Diploma/GED and Successful Completion of the ParaPro Praxis Assessment with qualifying score.(Documentation must be provided.)
