JOB DESCRIPTION TITLE: Paraprofessional REPORTS TO: Classroom Teacher/ Principal WAGE/HOUR STATUS: Non exempt LENGTH OF CONTRACT: 178 days HOURS: 7:50 am - 3:25 pm SALARY: $19,222.22 - $21,091.22 PRIMARY PURPOSE: The Special Education Paraprofessional will endeavor to work closely with one or a few special needs students on a regular basis in order to provide them with they physical help and emotional support they need to gain the full benefits from their educational placement under the direction of the supervising teacher(s). QUALIFICATIONS: Education/ Certification:
• An Associate of Arts Degree or 60 College hours or High School Diploma/GED and Successful Completion of the ParaPro Praxis Assessment with qualifying score.(Documentation must be provided.)
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS Knowledge of:
• General Concepts of child growth and development and child behavior characteristics.
• General Purposes and goals of public education.
Ability to:
• Assume responsibility for supervising students.
• Learn and utilize basic methods and procedures to be followed in instructional settings.
• Perform routine clerical work and basic arithmetical calculation.
• Demonstrate an understanding, patient, warm and receptive attitude toward children.
• Understand and carry out oral and written instruction.
• Maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff, parents and the general public.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
• Tutor or assist a student or group of children designateted by the teacher.
• Review and summarize learning of specific skills.
• Repeat a lesson when necessary.
• Dispense and clean up materials.
• Assist the teacher in special class demonstrations.
• Assist in monitoring student's seatwork.
• Oversees and supervises students during classroom activities in library and on field trips.
• Maintains discipline in the absence of the teacher.
