Job Title: Grow Your Own Instructional Support Apprentice (Part Time) Location: tbd Job Title Code: tbd Salary Grade: E01-120, $15 per hour flare rate Reports To: Building Principal FLSA Status: Non-exempt Position Summary: Instructional Support Apprentice– Grow Your Own (GYO) position is designed to support classroom instruction, student supervision, and daily school operations while providing KCPS Grow Your Own high school graduates with hands-on experience in an educational setting. This role is specifically for participants in Kansas City Public Schools' Grow Your Own program and serves as an intentional career pathway into the teaching profession. Through guided classroom support, collaboration with educators, and exposure to instructional practices, a GYO Teacher Apprentice builds foundational skills, professional habits, and educational experience as part of a structured pipeline toward earning teacher certification and becoming a KCPS teacher. This role supports both immediate classroom needs and the district's long-term commitment to developing future educators from within the KCPS community. What You'll Be Doing: (Responsibilities) Instructional & Classroom Support
• Support the teacher in daily instructional activities and classroom routines.
• Work with individual students or small groups to reinforce lessons and practice academic or enrichment skills.
• Assist with preparing, organizing, and setting up instructional materials and learning environments.
• Support curriculum activities and help students stay engaged and on task.
• Use classroom technology and digital tools to support student learning as directed.
Student Supervision & School Support
• Supervise students in the classroom and during non-instructional times (e.g., arrival/dismissal, lunch, recess, transitions).
• Monitor student behavior and reinforce established classroom and school expectations.
• Provide short-term classroom coverage when the teacher is temporarily out of the room but remains in the building.
• Assist with maintaining a safe, orderly, and positive learning environment.
Collaboration & Professional Responsibilities
• Perform basic clerical and organizational tasks such as duplicating materials, filing, data entry, inventorying supplies, and distributing materials.
• Work collaboratively with teachers, school staff, volunteers, and administrators.
• Communicate professionally with families as directed by the teacher or school administration.
• Attend orientation, required training, and professional development sessions.
• Maintain confidentiality and comply with all district, state, and school policies and procedures.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None To Be Successful in This Role, You'll Need (Required Qualifications):
• High School Diploma
• Current, active participation in the KCPS Grow Your Own program/pipeline
• Missouri Substitute Certification (current or pending)
• Missouri Para Pro Certification (current or pending)
