You will play a key role in supporting designated Consultant(s) and providing a professional service to patients, clinicians and other healthcare professionals. The majority of patients are referred via the Urgent Suspected Cancer (USC) pathway, making this a busy and varied role where communication, organisation and timely coordination of patient care are essential. You will be the primary contact for patients, offering reassurance, information and advice, while managing clinics, inpatient waiting lists, admissions and TCIs using EPR and other relevant systems. You will coordinate theatre cases and support maximum theatre capacity utilisation, while maintaining and validating waiting lists in line with Trust protocols and Department of Health Referral to Treatment waiting times. Working closely with Consultants, GPs, hospital departments and peripheral clinics, you will manage queries, arrange pre-clerking appointments and admissions, and ensure investigations and results are brought to the Consultant's attention and appropriately actioned. You will provide PA and administrative support, including correspondence, digital dictation, filing and maintaining patient records. The role requires you to organise and prioritise a high workload under pressure and without supervision, provide effective departmental cross-cover and use electronic systems for correspondence, recording, retrieval and maintenance of information.
Main duties of the job

To be theprimary contact forpatients under designatedConsultant(s). Tocommunicate effectivelyand professionally, givingreassurance, informationor advice appropriately.
To prioritise theatre casesand select appropriatecases for thetheatre time scheduleto ensure maximumtheatre capacity utilisationat all times.
To ensure thatall patients reportsand investigation resultsare brought tothe attention ofthe Consultant withthe patient's files.
To act as PA for designated Consultant(s). To manage all administration / PA typing(using Digital Dictationsystem where appropriate) and organise officeprocedures for designatedConsultant(s). Tomaintain administrativefiling system.
To take messages or reply to queries from GPs, patients, other hospital departments and outside agencies; findingthe patient's filebefore referring queryto Medical Staff, if unable todeal with query.
To 'buddy' withMedical Secretaries andAssistant Medical Secretarieswithin department foreffective cross-coveras required duringannual leave / sickleave.
