Help shape the future of weight management services in Wales.
We're looking for a Senior Content Designer to join a national transformation programme supporting the delivery of Healthy Weight: Healthy Wales and MyPath Cymru. You'll work as part of a multidisciplinary team alongside user researchers, service designers, interaction designers, clinicians, digital specialists and programme colleagues to create clear, accessible and evidence-based content that helps people understand and engage with weight management services.
This is an opportunity to improve how people access, navigate and use support across digital, community and clinical settings. You'll use research, insight and content design practice to ensure information is easy to find, understand and act on, supporting both user needs and service outcomes.
This post is a fixed term/ secondment for 12 months with a possibility to extend to 18 months. If you are interested in applying for the secondment position, you must obtain permission from your current line manager prior to applying for this post.
Main duties of the job
Design, create and improve content across end-to-end service journeys, ensuring it is clear, accessible and focused on user needs.
Work closely with user researchers and other designers to understand people's needs, behaviours and challenges, applying these insights to content decisions.
Use tools such as Figma to develop and test content within prototypes, journeys and service concepts
Develop content patterns, structures and guidance that support consistent and effective user experiences.
Champion accessibility and inclusive design, ensuring content works for a wide range of people, circumstances and levels of health literacy.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to balance user needs, service requirements and organisational priorities.
Use evidence, insight and stakeholder engagement to influence decisions and improve service experiences.
Support and mentor colleagues while contributing to a culture of learning, collaboration and continuous improvement.

As a Senior Content Designer, you will be responsible for creating and improving content across complex services and digital products within a large-scale transformation programme. You'll help ensure people receive the information they need, at the right time and in the right format, enabling them to make informed decisions and confidently navigate services.
The role involves planning and delivering content design activities, shaping content strategy and contributing to service improvements. You'll work closely with user researchers, designers, developers, clinicians and stakeholders throughout discovery, design and delivery.
You will:
Create and improve content across end-to-end user journeys, ensuring it meets user needs and supports service objectives.
Develop content strategies, patterns and approaches that improve consistency, usability and accessibility.
Create and test content within prototypes using tools such as Figma and other appropriate design and prototyping tools.
Use research, data and evidence to inform content decisions and continuously improve content performance.
Translate complex, technical or sensitive information into clear, understandable and actionable content.
Work collaboratively with user researchers to understand user needs and evaluate content with users.
Champion accessibility and inclusive communication, ensuring content is accessible to people with a wide range of needs and abilities.
Help identify opportunities to improve services through better content, clearer journeys and more effective communication.
Support agile delivery by working collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.
Communicate content decisions clearly and build shared understanding among stakeholders.
Champion user-centred design and contribute to a culture of learning, collaboration and continuous improvement.
Support and mentor colleagues, sharing knowledge and helping grow content design capability across teams.

Person Specification
Qualifications and Knowledge Essential
A Master's degree in an associated professional field (or equivalent qualification / experience). Further evidence of relevant higher-level education and/or training. Knowledge gained through practical experience of working at this level, across the range of work procedures and practices. Evidence of continuous professional development.
Desirable
FEDIP Senior Practitioner, or equivalent recognised advanced level professional qualification. Theoretical and specialist knowledge gained via relevant certification such as: o MISTC - Member of the Institute of Scientific and Technical Communicators Knowledge of the NHS, other healthcare systems, or the health sector, including regional or national variations.
Experience Essential
Practical experience in a content design role, with responsibility for creating, evaluating, updating and reviewing content at all stages of the end-toend user journey. Experience of developing content strategy and solutions, preferably for large-scale problems and high-profile events. Experience of translating technical data and user stories into content that meets users' needs, and successfully using a range of design approaches. Experience of working on complex projects within a fast-paced, evolving environment, with an iterative and flexible approach to rapid delivery in an agile environment. Proficient in software tools which automate or assist part of the development process. Proficient in software that enables the user to capture, create, populate and manipulate data structures and where appropriate unstructured data. Proficient in the ability to visualise and present information and data in an appropriate format that helps stakeholders understand the significance of the information and data. Aware of methods and techniques associated with planning and monitoring progress of projects.
Skills and Attributes Essential
Creativity skills to take innovative approaches to problem solving and/or devising inventive and creative solutions. Attention to detail skills to apply specific quality standards to all tasks undertaken to ensure that deliverables are accurate and complete. Welsh language skills are desirable at levels 1 or above / 3 or above in understanding, speaking, reading and writing in Welsh
