An experienced healthcare practitioner with proven leadership skills and experience working in Ophthalmology. They will support the Ophthalmology teams in medical Retina and Glaucoma whilst developing their own advanced clinical assessment skills, including assessment of patients, diagnostic skills and understanding of investigations. They will demonstrate safe, critical decision-making in the clinical decision-making process and will work collaboratively with consultants and multi-disciplinary team to meet the needs of patients, supporting the delivery of policy and procedure. you will work to ensure wherever possible that junior medical staff are enabled to meet their training and development requirements. Local requirements for advanced clinical practice must be met or worked towards.
Preference will be given to applicants with experience of managing Medical Retina and Glaucoma. Please note this is not a training post.
Main duties of the job
Assess, differentially diagnose, plan, implement and evaluate individual treatment/interventions. Prescribes independently (where legally permitted) or uses PGDs to review medication for therapeutic effectiveness, appropriate to patient needs and in accordance with evidence-based practice, national and practice protocols, and within scope of practice to optimise treatment. Prioritises own and medical team's workload and ensures effective time-management strategies are embedded within the culture of the team. Works effectively with others to clearly define values, direction and policies impacting upon care delivery Maintain effective communication within the Ophthalmology department ensuring active participation with senior nursing and medical team members and provide effective communication between the roles. Compile reports following patient procedures and maintain complete and accurate patient records, ensuring accurate data input into computerised systems. Ensure accurate patient documentation, communicating any deviation from normal clinical progress to appropriate consultant for evaluation. In partnership with other clinical teams, collaborate in improving the quality of health care responding to local and national policies and initiatives as appropriate, and assessing the impact.

Qulifications Essential
Registered healthcare practitioner with current registration Leadership course Portfolio demonstrates continual professional development Educated to Masters degree level in Ophthalmology.

Teaching qualification Independent non-medical prescriber ILS or ALS provide.
Knowledge and Experience Essential
Currently working in ACP Specialist Post in Ophthalmology speciality Clinical experience in an Medical retina and/ or Glaucoma within a acute Hospital eye service Experience of managing own caseload of patients Teaching, mentoring and assessment Implementing policy, SOPs and operational processes Committed to quality assurance and delivering continued service improvement Experience of clinical audit and research practice Professional knowledge acquired through degree/diploma supplemented by significant post-registration experience and specialist knowledge of the clinical area applied for Evidence of management skills gained through theory and / or practice Knowledge of the NHS constitutional standards for cancer and routine pathways Knowledge and experience to work as an autonomous clinical practitioner, with self-management of own caseload of patients.
