About this role
A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an HPC Architect to join a department to assist with the design, development, and evolution of high-performance computing infrastructure within a complex engineering environment.
This role performs the duties of HPC architecture, infrastructure strategy, and system oversight, and reports to the senior leadership team within the Information Management function.
Key Responsibilities:
Define and deliver the long-term HPC architecture roadmap aligned with organisational objectivesArchitect large-scale HPC environments including CPU, GPU, and accelerator-based systemsDesign and optimise high-performance networking solutions (InfiniBand, RDMA, high-speed Ethernet)Develop scalable storage architectures including parallel file systems, object storage, and tiered storageProvide technical leadership and oversight to engineering and operations teamsLead performance benchmarking, capacity planning, and workload modelling activitiesIdentify and resolve system bottlenecks to ensure optimal throughput and scalabilityEstablish standards, reference architectures, and best practices across HPC environmentsCollaborate with internal stakeholders and external vendors to align infrastructure with evolving business needsSupport the development of workload orchestration strategies using tools such as SLURM and Kubernetes
The ideal candidate would have:
Strong background in high-performance computing environments and infrastructure designExperience working with open-source technologies and software-defined data centresKnowledge of HPC software stacks including MPI, CUDA, compilers, and scientific librariesFamiliarity with containerisation and reproducible workload environmentsExperience working within large, complex, or multi-national organisationsAbility to influence technical direction and engage with cross-functional stakeholders The ideal candidate must have:
Proven experience designing and architecting large-scale HPC systemsStrong expertise across compute, storage, and high-performance networkingHands-on experience with HPC cluster environments and infrastructure componentsExperience with performance optimisation, benchmarking, and capacity planningAbility to provide technical leadership and define architectural standardsEligibility to obtain and maintain high-level security clearance This position offers a lucrative benefits package, which includes but is not limited to:
