We are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity for a Senior Clinical Fellow in Emergency Medicine to join the Emergency Department at University Hospital Lewisham. This fellowship is designed for doctors who have successfully completed, or are within four months of completing, CCT/CESR in Emergency Medicine and are preparing for their first consultant post.
This fellowship provides an excellent opportunity to develop confidence and experience in consultant-level practice within a supportive, enthusiastic, and dynamic Emergency Medicine team. Fellows will benefit from protected time to develop a specialist interest, enhance their portfolio, and build the wider skills and experience needed for a successful transition into a consultant role.
Main duties of the job
The Post Senior Clinical Fellow will provide senior clinical leadership across all areas of the Emergency Department, delivering high-quality emergency care while undertaking consultant-level responsibilities. This includes acting as the Emergency Physician in Charge (EPIC), leading the Resuscitation Area, Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC), Rapid Assessment and Triage (RAT), Ambulatory Emergency Care, and participating in paediatric emergency medicine.The Fellow will supervise and support junior doctors, Advanced Clinical Practitioners, and the wider multidisciplinary team, contributing to safe, effective patient care and departmental flow. In addition to clinical duties, the role includes participation in service development, teaching, governance, audit, research and quality improvement activities. Fellows will benefit from protected non-clinical time to develop a specialist interest, supported by experienced consultant mentors, together with study leave and funding to support professional development. The successful candidate will maintain professional standards, mandatory training, confidentiality, and continuing professional development while preparing for a consultant post.
This is more than a clinical post. It is an opportunity to bridge the gap between senior trainee and consultant practice, allowing you to develop your clinical leadership, management, education, research and specialist interests while being supported by an experienced consultant team.

Qualifications and Training Essential
MBBS, or equivalent Current GMC Registration with Full License to Practice CCT/CESR in the UK or within 4 months of application at time of interview ALS, ATLS/ETC and APLS/EPALS or equivalent- all in date Ultrasound level 1 signed off
Desirable
ATLS/APLS/EPALS/ETC instructor Additional experience in relevant posts especially paediatrics and ITU / anaesthetics Other degrees, e.g., BSc MSc, MD. Sub-specialist interest

Clinical training and experience equivalent to that of gaining UK CCT - Potential to benefit from the experience and training offered by this post (fits in with career aspirations to be EM consultant) Ability to offer expert clinical advice on emergency patients Experience of teaching at departmental level in Emergency Medicine.
