Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes conducting analyses of the claims/billing process; preparing insurance claims for third party collections and/or reconciling patient insurance claim accounts; and preparing correspondence and/or reports required by manager. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service GS-05. Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
Major DutiesReview and process claims for medical and dental insurance billing.Follow-up and respond to unsatisfactory third party response inquiries such as claim denials, inadequate payment or non-response to bill to ensure maximum reimbursement to the hospital.Verify patient insurance coverage, eligibility, benefits and benefit limitations.Collect and update beneficiary insurance information in automated health systems at registration or point of serviceProvide guidance to patients and staff on topics such as insurance policies, billing requirements and the department’s internal processes.
