SALARY RANGE: $16.90-$16.90
HIRING RANGE: Anticipated hiring range is near or at the minimum of the classification,
commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training.

Definition of Classification:
The Graduate Assistant collaborates with the Director of Outdoor Programs to support the management of student leaders and oversee the operations of Outdoor Programs and recreation.
Reporting to the Director of Recreation and Outdoor Programs, the primary function of this position is to provide assistance on OP projects, student leadership and programming curriculum development, training of student leaders, and facilitating program growth. This position is a member of the department's leadership team.
This position requires flexible working hours, which will include working some evenings, weekends, and some holidays.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Support Outdoor Programs student leaders in the planning, coordination, and execution of outdoor trips and
• Attend and assist in facilitating all Apprentice and Trip Leader Trainings (approximately four weekends per year).
• Assist in overseeing Outdoor Programs rental and bicycle shop operations, including collaborating with student managers to improve systems, processes, and customer
• Recruit, train, supervise, and develop student employees and Outdoor Programs student
• Collaborate with campus partners and community organizations to expand outdoor recreation opportunities and create meaningful educational experiences for
• Develop and support initiatives that increase participation, accessibility, and inclusion within Outdoor Programs.
• Mentor and advise student leaders through ongoing training, leadership development, and experiential learning
• Assist the Director of Outdoor Programs with program assessment, student learning outcomes, data collection, and continuous program improvement
• Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging by fostering welcoming and accessible environments for all
• Seek opportunities to engage and support students from historically underrepresented backgrounds in outdoor
• Communicate effectively with students, staff, faculty, and external partners through in-person interactions, email, social media, presentations, and other communication
• Support Outdoor Programs and Student Affairs initiatives, including New Student Orientation, involvement fairs, leadership events, and commencement-related
• Serve as an Outdoor Programs on-call resource during designated trips and programs, as

Qualifications Guidelines:
Any combination of experience/training/education equivalent to, but not limited to, the following:
Required
• Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Education or
• Two years of experience planning and facilitating outdoor programs trips; including budgeting, risk mitigation, and
• A valid California Class C CA drivers' license with a good driving record is A current DMV printout demonstrating a good driving record will be required prior to offer of employment.
• Wilderness First Responder certification
Preferred
• Leave No Trace Master Educator
• Red Cross Lifeguard certification or
Knowledge and Skills:
• Knowledge of outdoor recreation programming, technical outdoor skills, outdoor equipment management, and group
• Experience teaching outdoor skills and leading participants in outdoor
• Understanding of risk management principles and best practices for outdoor recreation
• Working knowledge of relevant federal, state, and university policies and

Standard office and field setting. Duties performed are in an office environment while sitting at a desk or computer workstation or in meetings. Duties are also performed in various outdoor settings, including high elevation mountains, deserts, and other potentially hazardous environments. The position requires working evenings, weekends, and some holidays.
Physical Demands:
Incumbents regularly sit for long periods at a desk or in a car; stand, and walk on a regular basis; occasionally may run; use hands and fingers to operate an electronic keyboard, other office machines, stoves, or other outdoor gear; reach with hands and arms; stoop or kneel or crouch to file; speak clearly and distinctly to answer telephones and to provide information; see to read fine print and operate computer; hear and understand voices over telephone and in person; and lift, carry and/or move objects weighing up to 20 pounds. Incumbents may also walk/hike uphill on uneven terrain carrying heavy loads; engage in unique physical activities such as rock climbing, scrambling, paddling (kayaks, canoes, etc.)
