We are seeking a User Experience (UX) Intern to join our Product & Technology team at our headquarters in Minneapolis MN for a 10-week summer internship program from June to August 2027. This opportunity is designed for talented undergraduate students, graduate students, and recent graduates who are passionate about creating exceptional digital experiences and have an interest in the product side of local news.

As a member of the UX team, interns will collaborate closely with Product, Technology, News, Advertising, Consumer Growth, and Marketing teams to help design and improve user-centered products and experiences. Interns will gain hands-on experience working on meaningful projects that support our digital products and business goals.

Each internship experience is tailored to the selected candidate's skills, interests, and career aspirations, providing opportunities for learning, professional growth, and cross-functional collaboration within a dynamic media environment.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with product managers, engineers, and UX designers on projects that support company-wide initiatives and serve local news audiences.

• Contribute to various stages of the user experience design process, including user research, UX strategy, ideation, wireframing, prototyping, and high-fidelity design.

• Assist in planning, conducting, and synthesizing user research to identify user needs and opportunities for product improvement.

• Create and maintain design documentation, annotations, and supporting materials to facilitate cross-functional collaboration.

• Support the maintenance and evolution of the design system to ensure consistency across digital products.

• Participate in design reviews, audits, and usability evaluations to help improve user experiences and product quality.

• Present design concepts, findings, and recommendations to stakeholders and project teams.

• Work on meaningful, real-world projects that provide hands-on experience in news product design and audience engagement.

• Build a portfolio of UX work while gaining exposure to how product, design, and technology teams collaborate to create impactful digital experiences.

Qualifications

• Current sophomore, junior, senior, or graduate student, or a recent college graduate.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated problem-solving abilities.

• Understanding of design thinking principles and the ability to incorporate feedback into iterative design solutions.

• Experience creating wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs using Figma.

• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.

• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

• Proven ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

• Adaptable learner with the ability to quickly grasp new tools, technologies, and concepts.

• Passion for user experience design and creating meaningful digital products.

• Must be currently legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H1B status, 0-1, TM, CPT, OPT, etc.). We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time.

Compensation Range

The hourly pay rate for this internship is $22.55.
