Job Title: Process Engineer I Reports To: Area Manager
Location: Niles, MI Department: Production
Employees Supervised: Process Technician(s)
Purpose:
Monitors process performance in order to identify areas for improvement, defines problems relating to product/process systems, and implements improvement programs to eliminate problems. Leads team projects and provides technical and problem solving support as required
Essential Functions:
• Instigates studies and actions to overcome quality, processing, and safety problems to reduce waste and improve team performance.
• Develop and maintain process documentation; i.e. Process Flow, PFMEA, Control Plan, and related Work Instructions or SOP. Audit regularly for the accuracy and effectiveness of such procedures. Guarantee that process standards correspond to the company's objectives, costs, and supplies in order to meet the needs of the customer.
• Setup systems and train team members in Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's), problem solving, CI techniques (Ex: 5S, TPM, SMED, process capability measurement, and statistical process control (SPC), in order that internal/external customer needs are met.
• Full participation in the New Model Introduction process by the development of new products or processes and systems. Contribute to research and development projects. Assist in the commissioning equipment and other systems to ensure that introduction into the production facility is efficient with minimal disruption.
• Coordinates testing of new materials, processes, and equipment before the introduction into the production phase.
• Will own the containment and corrective action for all product CARs and serve as a “primary” contact for all customer-site ambassadors. This will also require travel to customer locations.
• Works in compliance with all safety rules and regulations. Provide actions to support safety and environmental compliance and improvement. Evaluate workcell set up, equipment, and operating procedure for ergonomic impacts and provide actions for ergonomic improvements.
• Participate in various training and workshops to expand the engineering skill set.

Scope/Dimensions:
• Single site manufacturing location with 3 shift operation, supplying finished goods to Tier 1 Automotive OEM and Tier 2 customers.
• Actively participating in problem solving teams and other groups as necessary to achieve KPI goals.
• Relies on experience and understanding of glass and plastics processes and written customer requirements to determine proper actions.
• Demands and priorities need adjusted regularly to provide a high level of service under tight timelines to several “customers” internally or externally.

Qualifications Required:
• Associates degree in related field or combination of education and experience or equivalent experience.
• Minimum four (4) years relevant experience. Two (2) years technical support experience in injection molding processes (Ex: Mold Tech; Process Tech; Senior Process Tech)
• Two (2) years automotive manufacturing experience
• Demonstrated ability to coach and instruct operators and process technicians.
• Knowledge of and ability to use customer and supplier prints, SPC, pressure gauges, and monitoring devices.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Demonstrated leadership ability and the ability to work within a team.
• Must be proficient in the use of business software such as Excel, Word, and MS-Outlook.
• Must have a demonstrated ability to apply inferential and deductive reasoning.
Qualifications Desired:
• Automation Training/Experience (ABB, Fanuc Robotics)
• Injection Molding Certification (Routsis or similar)
• Six-Sigma Certification (Greenbelt or Black Belt)
• Training and experience in disciplined problem solving techniques (Ex: 5-Why; 8-D; DMEAC)

Physical Environment:
While performing the duties of this position, the associate frequently works around moving machines/parts in an industrial environment. The associate occasionally works around industrial chemicals and other industrial hazards requiring PPE. The associate must possess a valid driver's license and acceptable DMV record for use of company vehicles. Regular and predictable attendance at the manufacturing plant is required.

Salary Range: $73,668-$82,884
The Salary Range posted represents Pilkington North America's good faith and reasonable estimate of the possible compensation at the time of the posting. Individual pay will vary based on demonstrated job related skills, knowledge, experience, education, etc.
