About this role

Job summary

The Department of Anaesthetics provides anaesthetics, pain services, pre-operative preparation and emergency services to Broomfield Hospital as part of the Mid and South Essex Foundation Trust.

The Department is part of the Division of Anaesthetics and Theatres and has one Clinical Director and Trust-wide leads in Pre Assessment and Pain. Lists also occur at the Braintree Community Hospital which is a standalone elective, Orthopaedic site.

Main duties of the job

The Department of Anaesthetics provides anaesthetics, pain services, pre-operative preparation and emergency services to Broomfield Hospital as part of the Mid and South Essex Foundation Trust. The Department is part of the Division of Anaesthetics and Theatres and has one Clinical Director and Trust-wide leads in Pre Assessment and Pain. Lists also occur at the Braintree Community Hospital which is a standalone elective, Orthopaedic site.

There is a strong history of excellence in anaesthetic education at Broomfield and we have links to the School of Medicine at the nearby Anglia Ruskin University including Honorary Senior Lecturers. There are national courses organised under the auspices of ARU by our consultants.

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

MBBS or equivalent GMC registered FRCA or equivalent

Desirable

Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS)

Knowledge and Experience Essential

At least 4 years post graduate ST experience Comprehensive knowledge in the specialty and ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a range of problems Experience and competence in obstetric anaesthesia including labour epidurals Ability to critically assess critically ill patients in Resus and on the wards

Desirable

Experience of Ultrasound guided Regional anaesthetisia

Communication Essential

Ability to communicate effectively with clinical colleagues, other specialties and support staff
