About this role
A pastry cook will liaise with the pastry supervisor to design seasonal menus. The duties of a pastry cook include the baking of pastries for confectionary displays, scheduled events, and special requests. A pastry cook has to impress our customers with delicious new pastry creations.
Execute pastry orders for catered events and accommodate special requests. Demonstrate skill in baking pastries, desserts, cakes, cookies, sweets, and pies. Prepare pastries in accordance with recipes, photos and menus. Create enticing confectionery decorations and delicious pastry fillings, as well as keeping abreast of new pastry baking techniques. Apply classic pastry baking techniques when preparing traditional pastries. Add novel, creative, and delicious pastry items to the existing selection. Monitor kitchen equipment and ensure all specialised pastry-baking tools are in working order. Maintain the good running order of specialised pastry-baking equipment. Keep pastry section records. Inspect pastries before being served to ensure consistent quality and guest delivery. Sets up for pastries by ensuring proper amounts are in place for forecasted covers, special functions, and any reservations. As requested, completes inventory and restocks. Prepares a work checklist and organises work stations for each shift. Ensure that the pastry kitchen is readied for the next shift. Supportive Functions: Performs any general cleaning tasks using standard hotel cleaning products as assigned by supervisor. Keep floors dry and clean to avoid slip/fall accidents.
Performs other duties as requested, such as moving supplies and equipment, cleaning up unexpected spills etc. Adheres to safety and security standards, including: Ensure that the work area and equipment are cleaned, maintained and organised. Ensure proper equipment operation. Working knowledge of local health/sanitation, food storage and handling. Follow any internal, local health/sanitation guidelines/procedures to ensure food and beverage safety for guests. Responsible for labelling and dating all items placed in walk and/or reach-ins. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) may be required when performing work duties that may have the potential of risk to your health or safety. The hotel will provide the required PPE. Team members will be trained in the proper use and care of any assigned PPE. It is your responsibility to report defective, damaged or lost PPE, or equipment that does not fit properly, to your manager.
Education: EPB - Unit Service - Baker Excellent oral and written communication skills in English Licences/Certificates: HACCP Certificate and Health Certificate DVG Years of related experience: 0-3 years Knowledge of traditional pastry baking techniques is required. Creative ability in designing, decorating, and filling confectionery. Experience in baking pastries, desserts, cakes, cookies, sweets, pies and breads Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required.
