Director of Marketing and Community Engagement
SPCA Westchester is seeking a creative and dynamic Director of Marketing and Community Engagement to join our leadership team. The Director will be responsible for leading the organization's marketing, communications, public relations, brand management, and community engagement efforts. This individual will develop and execute strategic marketing initiatives that increase awareness, strengthen donor and community relationships, promote programs and services, and support fundraising and outreach goals. Reporting to the CEO, the Director of Marketing and Community Engagement will serve as a member of the leadership team and ensure that all external communications reflect the mission, values, and strategic priorities of SPCA Westchester.
Responsibilities
• Create and implement a comprehensive marketing and communications strategy aligned with SPCA Westchester’s strategic plan, fundraising initiatives, and operational goals.
• Develop and solicit corporate partnerships and sponsorship strategies that strengthen community relationships, increase visibility, and support organizational and fundraising goals.
• Provide implementation and strategic oversight of the organization's digital marketing strategy, including the website, social media platforms, email marketing, digital advertising, and online reputation.
• Oversee community outreach initiatives and events that promote SPCA Westchester’s mission, programs, and services and strengthen community engagement.
• Serve as the primary liaison with the organization's website development and hosting vendors, coordinating website enhancements, SEO, troubleshooting, maintenance, ongoing improvements and Google analytics.
• Partner with the Development team to create marketing strategies and materials that support fundraising campaigns, donor stewardship, grants, sponsorships, special events, and annual giving initiatives.
• Supervise marketing coordinator, consultants, photographers, videographers, graphic designers, and outside vendors.
• Oversee the development and execution of integrated marketing campaigns across print, digital, email, social media, and other communication channels.
• Create compelling content highlighting adoptable animals, adoption success stories, fundraising campaigns, volunteer opportunities, educational initiatives, and the organization's impact on the community.
• Develop communications strategies that deepen engagement with community members, adopters, volunteers, donors, veterinary clients, media and other constituents.
• Oversee the creation of annual reports, brochures, promotional materials, and other organizational publications.
• Build and maintain relationships with media outlets, community organizations, corporate partners, and other key stakeholders to expand the organization's visibility and impact.
• Lead all branding, messaging, and public relations efforts to strengthen SPCA Westchester’s visibility and community engagement.
• Serve as the organization's communications leader by overseeing the development of press releases, media statements, op-eds, talking points, speeches, executive messaging, and other external communications for the CEO and senior leadership.
• Produce and oversee the organization's monthly e-newsletter and other recurring digital communications for donors, volunteers, adopters, supporters, and community partners.
• Ensure brand consistency across all departments, publications, advertising, signage, presentations, and public-facing materials.
• Identify new opportunities to increase SPCA Westchester’s presence and strategic goals.
• Stay informed of marketing trends, nonprofit best practices, and emerging technologies to continuously improve organizational outreach.
• Serve as an ambassador for SPCA Westchester’s mission, values, and commitment to animals and the people who care for them.
Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications or a related field (required).
• Minimum of eight (8+) years of progressively responsible marketing, communications, or public relations experience, including at least three (3+) years in a leadership role.
• Proven track record developing and executing strategic marketing plans and integrated communication campaigns.
• Demonstrated experience managing brand strategy, media relations, digital marketing, and public communications.
• Exceptional written, verbal, editing, and presentation skills.
• Strong leadership, project management, organizational, and decision-making skills.
• Experience managing websites, social media platforms, email marketing, digital advertising, and marketing analytics.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing organizational needs.
• Experience with SEO (required), Google Grants Ads and WordPress.
• Proficiency with website content management systems (CMS), email marketing platforms, CRM systems, Microsoft Office, and Adobe Creative Suite or similar design software preferred.
• Passion for animal welfare and commitment to the mission of the SPCA of Westchester is a must.
Work Schedule
This position is primarily scheduled Monday through Friday. However, the Director of Marketing and Community Engagement is expected to occasionally attend fundraising events, community outreach activities, organizational events, and other special events as needed, typically several times a month. These events may occur during evenings or weekends. In accordance with organizational policy, eligible time worked outside the regular schedule will be offset with a comparable weekday off to support work-life balance.
