Job Title: Welder / FabricatorJob DescriptionThis role focuses on welding and fitting in a custom job shop environment, primarily working with carbon steel using MIG and flux-cored arc welding (FCAW). You will perform precision work with very tight tolerances, support fabrication projects from blueprint to finished product, and contribute to both structural and aluminum TIG welding tasks. A proactive, can-do attitude and the ability to work independently from prints are essential, as you help fabricate high-quality steel structures and assemblies that meet demanding project specifications.Responsibilities
• Perform MIG and flux-cored arc welding (FCAW) on carbon steel components in a custom job shop setting. • Execute precise welding and fitting work, consistently meeting tight tolerances up to 0.0060 inches. • Read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, and layout drawings to plan and complete fabrication tasks accurately. • Carry out layout and fit-up of structural and fabricated parts prior to welding to ensure proper alignment and quality. • Operate as an experienced fitter or tenured welder who can work from prints with minimal supervision. • Perform welding in 1G, 2G, and 3G positions, including horizontal, flat, and vertical orientations. • Conduct TIG welding on aluminum materials, including layout and fit-up based on prints and project requirements. • Fabricate steel structures and assemblies according to project specifications, quality standards, and safety guidelines. • Maintain high standards of workmanship while working safely in a busy metal shop environment. • Collaborate with team members, communicate effectively, and respond constructively to feedback to support continuous improvement. • Adapt to varying projects and fabrication requirements, shifting between structural welding, fitting, and custom fabrication tasks as needed. • Contribute to a positive shop culture by working independently when required while actively supporting a collaborative team environment. Essential Skills
• At least 2 years of experience working in a structural weld shop or structural welding and fitting environment. • Proficiency in MIG welding on carbon steel in a fabrication or job shop setting. • Hands-on experience with flux-cored arc welding (FCAW) on structural and fabricated components. • Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, and layout drawings. • Demonstrated experience with layout and fit-up of structural and fabricated parts prior to welding. • Capability to weld in 1G, 2G, and 3G positions, including horizontal, flat, and vertical orientations. • Proven ability to work from prints with a can-do attitude and to hit the ground running with minimal supervision. • Experience working in a fabrication environment with tight tolerances, including precision work up to 0.0060 inches. • Ability to perform TIG welding on aluminum materials, including layout and fit-up based on project specifications. • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality workmanship in a metal fabrication setting. Employees should dress appropriately for a metal shop setting, including suitable protective clothing and gear, and be prepared for a non-heated environment where bay doors remain open in colder months. Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Eugene, OR. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $27.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
