Job summary
We are looking for a qualified Clinical or Counselling Psychologist to provide high-quality, evidence-based psychological care for older people across East Surrey, primarily within the Elmbridge and Mole Valley community mental health teams, with some work in Epsom. The role involves supporting older adults with mental health difficulties, memory concerns and dementia-related behavioural needs, while working closely with families and carers to deliver compassionate, person-centred care.
You will join a friendly and experienced team of Psychologists specialising in later life services across community and inpatient settings. We are committed to innovation, professional development and delivering excellent care for older people and those who support them. The successful candidate will receive a personalised development plan tailored to their interests and service needs, alongside regular CPD opportunities, high-quality clinical and neuropsychological supervision, and strong peer support. We have established links with the University of Surrey Doctoral Clinical Psychology programme and actively support the development of Psychologists in Training.
This post is suitable for experienced Senior Psychologists working at Band 8a, those seeking progression from Band 7 to Band 8a, and newly qualified psychologists interested in a Band 7 to 8a preceptorship opportunity.
Main duties of the job
This role involves working autonomously in conducting detailed assessment and formulation, therapeutic intervention, and neuropsychological assessment and interventions, covering both mental health and organic referrals for people living in the local community.
You will be working closely and collaboratively with the local multi-disciplinary teams in this region. A key part of this role will be using clinical leadership skills to support teams to embed psychosocial approaches within everyday practice. At an 8a level you will also be supporting and supervising pre-qualified and qualified Psychology staff.
There will be opportunities to lead on quality improvement projects and to contribute to the development of later life psychology provision across the neighbourhood teams. We support the undertaking of leadership and supervisor training to enable you to develop your skills and progress in your role.
This post requires travelling throughout Surrey in line with service need and therefore a car driver is essential.

Person Specification
Qualifications Essential
Doctorate in Clinical or Counselling Psychology qualification or equivalent. HCPC registration
Experience Essential
Experience of working with people from across the life span with a range of mental health issues and cognitive profiles. Experience across a range of psychological models including systemic, behavioural and individual therapeutic Demonstrable post registration/clinical experience and competency relevant to working with people in later life. Driving license and access to a vehicle.
Desirable
Band 8a - Experience of supervising assistant and trainee clinical psychologists Band 8a - Demonstrable post registration/clinical experience and competency relevant to this care group. Band 8a - Experience of contributing to clinical practice/service development/project work. Band 8a - Demonstrable interest/skill in a relevant specialist area.
